I knew there was some magic at work here
quote:
Stay with me here. Saban played defensive back at Kent State for Don James from 1970-72. James was an assistant coach from 1960-65 at Fla. St. for Bill Peterson. Bill Peterson was an assistant at LSU for Paul Dietzel from 1955-59. Dietzel was an assistant coach for Bear Bryant at Kentucky in 1951 and '52.

Bryant played with Johnny Mack Brown on the '26 Rose Bowl team. Brown became an actor and had roles in several John Wayne movies. Wayne went to USC. OJ Simpson played at USC. Robert Kardashian represented Simpson in his murder trial. Kim Kardashian is his kid.
Maybe a stretch, but I tried.

So Nick Saban is a member of the Knute Rockne coaching tree, huh? Lots of good coaches from that tree.
Knute Rockne -- > Frank Thomas -- > Bear Bryant -- > Paul Dietzel -- > Bill Peterson -- > Don James -- > Nick Saban
There are six national championship-winning coaches on this segment of the tree when you include Rockne himself.

Yep. From Wikipedia:
quote:
Bryant accepted a scholarship to play for the University of Alabama in 1931. Since he elected to leave high school before completing his diploma, Bryant had to enroll in a Tuscaloosa high school to finish his education during the fall semester while he practiced with the college team. Bryant played end for the Crimson Tide and was a participant on the school's 1934 national championship team. Bryant was the self-described "other end" during his playing years with the team, playing opposite the big star, Don Hutson, who later became a star in the National Football League and a Pro Football Hall of Famer. Bryant himself was second team All-Southeastern Conference in 1934, and was third team all conference in both 1933 and 1935. Bryant played with a partially broken leg in a 1935 game against Tennessee.[2] Bryant pledged the Sigma Nu social fraternity, and as a senior, he married Mary Harmon.[2]

Kim Kardashian is the daughter of Robert Kardashian.
Robert Kardashian got OJ Simpson off the hook.
OJ Simpson played football at USC 1967-1968.
OJ Simpson played for John McKay at USC.
John McKay agreed to play Bryant's Alabama team in a home-and-home in 1970-71, two of the most iconic games in Alabama history.

He did. I got ahead of myself. When Bryant was in California for the Rose Bowl as a member of the '34 team he met Johnny Mack Brown. I believe he helped him get a casting call, which didn't amount to anything. So it still works slightly.
Bryant--->Brown--->Wayne--->OJ--->RK--->KK

Wow, Bryant and Kim have so much in common. They should just go ahead and date.
