Imagine an 8 team playoff for '14. Who'd be "locks"?

Would Bama, FSU, or Oregon be considered locks, even if they lost their championship games?
Even if you'd assume the 8 would consist of the five power champions, and three at-large, would these three be the ones?
Maybe the combo of TCU / Baylor would keep one of the three out.
The 8 would be :
Missouri
Arizona
Georgia Tech
Wisconsin / tOSU
Baylor
TCU?
Bama?
Oregon ?
FSU ?

As long as the teams are chosen by committee, there are no locks.

amen. as long as the "committee" is in charge the results will be astounding and highly controversial. it is the stupidest thing ever. it is what happens when the rest of the country was so desperate to dethrone the SEC

Actually, I would say state is a lock. 2 of the top 8 will lose. In an 8 team scenario, not playing next weekend is the best spot to be in.

Then the conference championships would mean nothing to FSU, Ohio State, Bama, and Oregon

8-team playoff would be so terrible. Can you imagine Georgia Tech and FSU resting their starters against Georgia and Florida to get ready for their shot at an automatic bid in the ACC title game? Ohio St would still have Braxton Miller because he wouldn't have been playing in a meaningless game against Michigan.

In the OP's hypothetical, Mizzou beats Alabama and gets an automatic berth. Alabama would still be ahead of State and there's no way 3 of the 8 would be SEC.

You mean he wouldn't have been playing during a meaningless practice in August? I know the Big 10 is weak, but they didnt have it wrapped up in August.

No need to go to 8. It just brings in shitty 2 loss teams that you already beat. Why do you need to beat them twice?

The main reason I don't want to see an 8 team playoff is it increases the chances of a 2 loss champion.
