I have no idea how legit Clemson247 is but they're saying Morris is the front-runner for the head coaching position at SMU.

The Twitter-Sphere is saying multi-year, $3 million contract.

Distraction if nothing else.

This is legit. He Gone. Not that it really matter, he couldn't put up more than 17 points against us with the greatest offense in that school from the upstate's history.

Where this will hurt them is recruiting. You couldn't make an argument to convince me that D Watson would've gone to clemson had Morris NOT been there.

As much as I hope this does, I'm afraid it'll motivate them to send him out with a W.... I hope I'm wrong

It could go either way... motivation or betrayal. Although, you can't really blame the guy for wanting to take a promotion. Not sure I would go to SMU though. If he waited one more year with Watson returning and the other weapons they have returning, he could have positioned himself for an even higher profile job. SMU is an absolute dumpster fire right now.

I'm on the other side of that. I couldn't fathom how this would create anything other than a distraction or negative connotation in the players' minds. D Watson chose clemson b/c of Morris being there and what Morris had done with Boyd. Several of those players are bound to feel betrayed on some level. Also, instead of spending all his time preparing for SC, Morris and his agent have apparently been focusing on interviewing and making a deal.

taternet is now reporting the Chad Morris told a recruit yesterday that he was going to be the SMU Coach.

SO here we go.....when the Chad rumors came out last night I was stunned. Turns out - from what I am hearing - I wasn't the only one. Head coach Dabo Swinney has done an excellent job of cloistering his team this week and keeping them focused on South Carolina - heck he even closed off practices - and then this happens less than 36 hours before kickoff. I've heard all of this took Coach Swinney a little bit by surprise (even though Chad had been mentioned as a candidate), and you can imagine that isn't what he wanted to happen with the Gamecocks looming. So...will he take it?? I am still hearing not a done deal but that this is a job he wants. I also had the father of one recruit call me and tell me that Morris said he was "taking a job in Texas." So there ya go...sounds like maybe it's just a matter of time.

Also TheClemsonInsider has put out an article saying that their sources are also confirming that our game will be Morris' last as Clemson OC, and that he will be replaced with Brad Scott's son Jeff Scott, who has been the WRs position coach at CU for some years.

TheClemsonInsider is a totally all positive Clemson site that doesn't allow a whole lot of "anti-Clemson" talk from their posters or allows unfounded stuff to be reported there that's in any way negative-slanted towards Clemson. So I take it that theior sources are pretty good and final on this. The posters there are already wishing Morris good luck on his new job...

Sounds like also from that report that this has taken Swinney and the team a bit by surprised with the timing of it all. They may have a bit of a distraction on their hands now, a day prior to playing their big in-state rival trying to prevent a 6th-straight loss. Can't say I'm not loving it....

This is all very interesting, but all of my Clemson friends are telling me that it is not a done deal due to the fact that Morris' daughter is a senior in high school, and that they want her to finish school here. Not sure what weight that plays on anything, and they are probably in denial, but that is what they are telling me at this point.

They are in the denial stage of grief right now. Next up, the abger phase. Expect them to say things like, " he couldnt score more than 17 on SC anyways, good riddance.!"

Then, bargaining, they will tell you that this will make them play better this weekend, or they are going to get Chip Kelly to come be their OC.

Next comes depression, the saddest to watch of all melt phases.

Finally, they will accept that they are up shite creek without Morris.

It is time for him to move on. His stock as a coordinator is about as high as he can make it. SMU is a job that appears to pay great, get's him back to Texas and is a "gimmie" if he cannot make a program that has been terrible since the death penalty with I think only 2 winning seasons.

If Chad can get them to one or 3 Bowl games he will get a prime job somewhere.

If that is the case then Dabo calls Muschamp and offers him 2 million to be DC..And he would take it

We would build a statue of Dabo for our campus if that happened. I don't think they'll let him lose 7 in a row, but I'm damn sure he'll never see 8 straight losses. If his coordinators leave and the suck next year, they may fire him before our game. If he makes it to our game, and loses for a 7th time in a row to SC, they'll fire him right after that game (or the bowl game if they still win 6.)

1. You don't have the resources to offer 2 million to a DC

2. He'd probably rather sit out a year and wait for a chance to get back in the SEC than coach in the ACC

Actually they could get close to $2M. Morris was getting $1.3, Venables was getting $800K. The OC they want is at ECU, he's earning $250K now.

So they could offer the ECU guy $400K and pay Muschamp $1.7M without having to raise more $. That would make Muschamp the highest paid Asst Coach by a lot.
