Michelle is a moron, but she is not to blame for all the spineless people around the country that let her influence school meals.

School lunch hasn't been good for a long time. You can contribute that to having to accommodate students with allergies/gastro issues and some of their sue happy parents.

+10000

Ours called them tostados or something like that. Were hexagon shaped and I made sure I didn't bring my lunch on the days they were served.

The last time I remember school lunch being good was probably elementary school (and I'm 33). That's when they had shite like the Potato Bar where you could fix your own loaded potato. Or Salad Bars. Stuff like that.

I'm sure they're no longer crispy, but chewy.

We had salad bars in high school. You could load it up so high and get a sweet tea for a $1.40.

They're made with turkey sausage now and the cheese is low-fat cheese so it doesn't melt right. Basically they suck now, but that's not Michelle's fault. They've been that way for at least the last 12 years. Friend of mine works for one of the big food distributors and used to give me some of it. I always ended up throwing most of it away.

And like someone said above, school lunch have always sucked.

Part of the problem here is probably for the last 10-15 years is that they no longer prepare lunches at the schools themselves. It's all brought in pre-made from the central office and reheated in the schools. I will say one of the incentives under the current administration (locally) has been a co-op with local farmers to bring in more fresh fruit/vegetables. That's improved things some but not nearly enough.

I guess I mean the traditional school lunch food. My high school had french fries and pizza everyday, along with a huge selection of Hostess snack cakes, chips, cookies, etc. We ate the F out of all that stuff that was horrible for you, but if you were on free lunch eating what the cafeteria prepared, it looked awful. I never tried it.

We used to double stack pizzas to make it look like one. The cashier wouldn't notice sometimes.

My high school lunch consisted of a selectin from four things option lines (two being salad/pizza and a sandwich line) and a guaranteed schedule of chicken fingers every Friday.

God dammit, every high school should be guaranteed to have at least an above average lunch for kids. Many times it was the damn highlight of the day. High school sucked.
