Watching Arkansas these last few weeks, perhaps we're seeing the SEC take a turn back to hit-'em-in-the-mouth football.

Sux for the schools who went all in on the flash in the pan guys that have no business in this league.

Near as I can tell Alabama, LSU and Georgia never backed off from hit-'em-in-the-mouth football.....

Auburns style is still hit you in the mouth football, just its "when we feel like it" and "the same punch over and over and over"

fat Bert is 0-2 against two of the worst Aggie defenses ever.

Well, I can see it happening. I already had the thought.

I think Saban changed the SEC at Bama. There have always been "big boy football" programs but that 2008-2011 stretch definitely had some programs reevaluating their approach. It was glorious. We were smash mouth, hard running, tough defense and other teams adjusted.

Ironically, Alabama has adjusted to all the up tempo stuff. Saban wants to get lighter/faster on defense--and can anyone argue we've been a good running team the last two years? No, it's been more finesse.

Enter Arkansas, who is going to look like the Wisky of the south, and we're going to have all these pansy assed defenses set up to stop all these pansy assed offenses (looking at you, AU) and Arky could potentially steamroll.

The variety of offenses you have to defend makes it difficult to build a team that's good at defending all of it.

One advantage Arkansas and other power run teams will have going forward is that defenses have now adjusted to the spread but have become more vulnerable to the power attack

When nobody is looking so we don't get flagged.

Before the other team and refs are lined up

On the other 6 days of the weeks

Hang in there, little buddy. Arkie is on the right track. They attack you because they are beginning to fear Arkie.

Building a team to defend against Arky/LSU is a lot different than building a team to defend against AU/A&M.

Pick your poison. Looks like Saban is going for a medium--though I don't know where Tre Depriest fits in defending any of it.

This. Football is cyclical. The game has been played for a hundred years. Teams adjust to the new trends and then the old trends come back into favor. I think that's why we saw the single game rushing record broken twice this year. Teams have adjusted to guard against the spread offenses, then along comes a team that wants to use an old school power attack and the defenses arent prepared for that.
