If you're going to gripe about those then throw in '66 as legitimate.

If he does, he'll go ahead of Barker and McElroy in legend status IMO.

Because it will be frickin' heroic.

This is way premature.

But IF, and I repeat IF, that happens, then Blake will be one of the most legendary players ever to play at UA. From being a great HS player, to buried in the depth chart, multiple position moves, transfer rumors, Coker brought in to take the starting job, beating out the transfer, and potentially helping a WR get to NYC for the Heisman, all with a handful of different OCs?

Gary Rutledge was the starting QB in 1973, not Richard Todd.

Both QBs played heavily in 1973. Rutledge had more passing yards while Todd surpassed him in yards rushing. Todd was the Tyler Watts to Rutledge's Brodie Croyle.

Joe Namath and Steve Sloan also split time together in 1964.

That doesn't change the fact that Rutledge was the starter all year long. Every game. Aside from either forgetting or just plain not being aware of him, you're just pulling numbers off a stat sheet. Put him on the list.

Gary Rutledge was the 1973 Alabama starting QB. Todd debuted in 1974 per the Alabama football record book. Page 147

"Championship Brothers" Tradition Edition Unframed. Player Autographs Gary and Jeff Rutledge This painting celebrates one of the rarest events in college football history. Imagine being the starting Quarterback for the college of your dreams, playing for the legendary Coach Bear Bryant, even winning a National Championship And five years later watching your younger brother accomplish the same thing. In fact, it is so rare we have been unable to locate another D1 University that holds this honor. Gary and Jeff Rutledge of Birmingham added to the Rich Tradition of Alabama football.

Newspaper article Sept. 5, 1974. Article states that Gary Rutledge was hurt and lost the starting QB position in the fall of 1974 to Todd. He was starting QB for the 11-1 1973 season. Shoulder surgery fells Tide's Rutledge

Please correct the op.

I care too. Hell, I was sitting there in Legion Field that October afternoon against the Vols when Rutledge opened the game with the bomb to Wheeler, and then later when Robin Cary came running at me with that punt return in the 4th quarter. Funny thing is that my buddy predicted the play call on the first play as we were walking over from where we parked by BSC. If you're gonna go to the trouble to make a thread like, this, dammit, get it right.

I don't think the guy was trying to change history, though. I just think he's a younger guy who wasn't around to see some of those guys and was just pulling numbers off a website. Lots of us were actually in the stands for some of those games.

Gary Rutledge generated 1,150 yards of offense in 1973. Richard Todd generated 900 yards of offense that same year. It seems to me they shared a lot of the workload that season.

Wikipedia had this to say about it:

quote:

In his sophomore year, Todd shared the quarterback position with Gary Rutledge.

Wikipedia also listed Todd as the starter of the '73 Tide on the Alabama Quarterbacks page. It's not like I pulled this out of my arse. That being said. I will edit it accordingly.
