Duke isn't going to blow people away at the combine. Especially not coming off a knee injury that could hinder combine prep.
His film and publicity over stats are his ticket to the first round. Missing 4 games, with at least two against solid competition , is going to hurt his stock. Add in JJ making his stock jump compared to NM

He should be back for the Alabama game.

Look, anyone with a brain knew that Mason wasn't coming back because there was literally nothing left for him to prove that could possibly improve his NFL standing.
This "scenario" is drastically different. Duke Williams will have played LESS THAN one full season due to injury, which is a big deal in NFL scouting as they typically will draft players with long resumes of performance over "one year wonders". He's currently got 609 yards and 5 touchdowns, so in reality he doesn't even qualify as a "one year wonder" because his production is actually average at best in relation to the top draft eligible receivers in the country.
How high do you honestly think he's going to be drafted with LESS THAN one year of D1 ball and 600-700 yards receiving? Seriously? There are simply too many draft eligible receivers who are comparable physically/athletically who have much longer resumes of performance which NFL teams will use as any sort of "tie breaker". No one is going to draft a receiver with 600 career yards in the Top 3 rounds, maybe even Top 4 rounds.

Sounds like pure homerism and people hearing what they want to hear. Duke isn't coming back.
If he did... So much fap.

How is it pure homerism? Go look at Duke's stats this year and compare it to the top draft-eligible receivers he would be going up against. The whole "one and done" mindset was under the notion that he'd come in and dominate on a team that would compete for a Championship, not under the notion that he'd come in and drop 600 yards before suffering a knee injury and missing several games on a team that completely fell apart. Like I said, I'm sure he thought he'd come in and play his way into the first 2 rounds. Right now he looks like a bubble 3rd/4th round pick, and that honestly may be optimistic considering that you're literally talking about a player that is gong to have ~10 career D1 games played and ~700 yards? And that is under the assumption that he actually makes it back to play again this season, which I hardly see as a given.
I don't think his dream "one and done" scenario concluded with him being drafted in the 5th or 6th round, which is actually plausible given his relative inexperience and lack of elite production at a position that is typically very competitive in the Draft.
I get that the kid is counting down to his payday, and it wouldn't surprise me if he actually left, but I think most of you are mis-evaluating his whole "one and done" stance. He's got a really high opinion of himself, I'd bet $10 that he thought he was going to light it up which would have made the whole one-and-done thing realistic. 600 yards and a knee injury is far from lighting it up. I'd like to assume that he's got the brains to reevaluate his position.

The NFL does not care about stats like that. Just like they don'l won't care if he has monster numbers next year.

They generally don't care, but there is always a standard line of performance that is expected in order to be drafted highly. I've never seen a receiver with 600 career yards get drafted high, ever. He's got 3 career 100+ yard games, thats it. Who in their right mind is going to use a top pick on a guy with 600 career yards and less than one full season of D1 tape? Get real. There are dozens of great receivers all around the country, its not like we're talking about some physical freak here who is clearly head and shoulders above the competition athletically, at which point you could assume that teams would be more than happy to assume the risk.
I think he'd get drafted if he declared, but I'd bet it would be around the mid rounds. As I said, I somehow doubt his "vision" was to be drafted in the ~4th/5th round.

I can't imagine anyone thinks he would be above a late 3rd grade. He is lacking the speed to earn that type of grade. The question is, will being drafted be enough to make him leave?

Maybe he will stay and our defensive staff will go pro. Maybe then we can get one that can recruit and coach.
