McElwain is actually a good coach

I think McElwain is the best offense co-ordinator Alabama has had recently, and that includes Kiffin. He called plays based solely on what would work, the situation, and the personnel he had. He didn't try to be cute or creative, solely for the sake of showing off. If vanilla plays would work, that's what he called. If those things wouldn't work, then he would try more creative things. His offensive philosophy fit Alabama and Saban's style perfectly.

You can never know any "what ifs" for certain, but I'm of the opinion if McElwain stays at Bama, Bama likely goes undefeated in 2012 and has a very real shot at 3-peating in 2013.

Nussmeier was terrible. Bama won games in spite of him and 2 of the 3 losses under his tenure you can put on his shoulders largely (although there's lots of blame to go around after any loss).

Kiffin is light years better than Nuss, but is also too pass happy, especially on 1st down. The plays he calls are actually good... but not for the personnel Bama has. Kiffin calls plays like Sims is Peyton Manning.

Long story short, McElwain is a very good offense co-coordinator and is doing a great job at CSU.

He's a gamble hire for sure, especially for a big name school like Florida, however a bigger program than CSU will roll the dice on him soon.

I totally agree.

I really want Mac to get a job at somewhere like Kansas or Colorado, show he can win in a big conference and then perhaps come home to us when Saban retires.

I think he's great and what he has done at Colorado State is pretty remarkable. They were a dumpster fire when he got there and there are about to go 11-1 in year 3 with significant progress each and every year. And his players love him.

Agree. Terrible is an overstatement. McElwain also had a few stretches of stinkers, but when he got in a zone he was as good as they got.

Clemson 2008, Georgia 2008, Florida 2009, LSU 2011 in NO. He also was very good at figuring out what was working and not feeling like he had to do something for the sake of balance : see South Carolina 2009.

Give me Kiffin. The man has taken a unit with a RB as a QB and average OL and turned them into NC contendors. I would like to see him with a good line and a Mark Ingram at RB.

Buy out is too high for someone to gamble on him at this point.

This. I think he is a great coach, but I can't see gambling on him with that 7.5 million dollar buyout.

Kiffin is light years better than Nuss,

All year long we've heard "best talent ever on offense" in regards to Alabama.. yet.. Nuss was better in every single category except 3rd down conversion rate.. 2 straight seasons. Nuss did it with Cooper in a sophomore slump too. The offense may be "more fun" to watch right now.. but that has zero to do with it being more or less effective.

Kiffin: 33.7 ppg (#40)
Nuss: 38.2 (#17), 38.7 ppg (#12)

SEC stats:
Kiffin: 30.1 ppg
Nuss: 38.1 ppg, 37.2 ppg

Did McElwain coach QBs?

From who? Come on. This OL is the worst OL we have had since 2007. The only NFL starter type player on this line is a true freshman LT. Blake was moved to RB in 2009 and 2010 and had never looked like a Division 1 QB.

We have great skill guys at WR and RB, but our line is average and we had raw materials at QB. All of Nuss' teams had lines that created a running threat. Against good teams this one has none.

Not to mention Nuss had AJ to fall back on (who he helped develop to be fair). Kiffin's work with Blake has been masterful. The guy is in the Top 5 in QB Rating for goodness sakes.

McElwain is a very good coach and I thought he wasn't appreciated enough by Bama fans. I'm glad to see him getting some notice from you and some of your fellow fans.

I think the majority of non-idiot sidewalk trash loved McElwain. He was solid and was at his best on the biggest stage.

Let's see.. the list of future all-pros per the Bama fan base.. Collins, Coker, Henry, Cooper, Yeldon, Howard, Drake. Seriously, this was supposed to be the best Alabama offense ever. It's not even close and that's including two ridiculous beat downs against Florida and A&M.

I think you guys are just a little disillusioned because Kiffin has been repeatedly bailed out by Sims legs and Coopers everything.

Collins? A safety?

Drake broke his leg after 4 weeks and was on pace to have a huge impact. He was doing exactly what people hoped he would in Kiffin's offense. He was a matchup nightmare.

Henry and Yeldon have been marginally successful but because of our poor run blocking have really not had much room to operate. Despite that they have still played pretty well.

Cooper is going to win the Bilitnekoff.

Howard has been a massive disappointment.

Blake Sims, who had no pub, has a Top 5 passer rating and is one of the most efficient QBs in the country.

You seriously don't remember the absurd amount of hype surrounding the offense? You guys were off on that by as much as we were all off on Sims. No one thought he would be competent or even borderline good.

I think Sims is a whiney crybaby and damn near mentally retarded at that. I would fricking love for him to line up in P&G.. if he played for LSU.. easily a playoff team.

I remember people saying that is the line performed well this offense would be really good. The line has been adequate.

And.......

F+ Offense Rank : 4th
ESPN FPI Offense Rank : 7th
Yards Per Game : 21st
Points Per Game : 39th

Not exactly struggling despite all those variables at QB and the OL. Inconsistent? At times, yes. Struggle to run the football against certain defenses? Yes, due to middle of the pack OL.

We're all pretty satisfied.
