It needs to be recognized that Sumlin has kept us from being a joke during our first SEC years, the value of this is huge. We need to grow to a 9+ win team every year to sustain recruiting and be a factor in title conversations.

As much as we like to give t.u. shite about Mack Brown, he only had ONE season with fewer than 8 wins, 2010.
1998: 9-3
1999: 9-5
2000: 9-3
After year 3, Mack Brown was 27-11. Kevin Sumlin is currently 27-10 with a better first AND second year than Brown had at t.u.
2001: 11-2
2002: 11-2
2003: 10-3
2004: 11-1
2005: 13-0
2006: 10-3
2007: 10-3
2008: 12-1
2009: 13-1

Ranked SEC teams I believe as well.
The biggest difference, whether it's blowout losses (1 on his resume IMHO) or close ones, he hasn't struggled to pull out wins vs inferior competition.
