I have to ask, why not Kerwin Bell? Lets discuss without trashing a former Gator great and successful offensive minded head coach.

I would be for it but alot of people are against hiring a coach from the division 2 level. Last year when i thought we were going coach shopping I wanted Craig Bohl, the guy who won 3 FCS national championships in a row at North Dakota. People laughed at me and said he wouldnt work out at UF. I dont know about that, OSU hired Jim Tressel from a FCS school after he won 2 titles in a row and it worked out for them.

No. I'm not going to get into an e-fight over him, but I don't think he's ready for UF. He would be learning on the job here to an extent and this next hire cannot be doing that in any phase imo.

He's already got HC experience, and he's got an offensive mind. I think it'd be a gamble, but I'd be okay with testing it out.

If you're going to go the small college route. How about the guy at Wisconsin Whitewater. His career record is 101-6. With 5 N.C's.

I think most small college coaches would be overwhelmed by the job at UF. Kerwin Bell understands UF and the job.

Exactly. He's also already got ties to recruiting and has shown that he can do with little talent at least decent things.

I think small time college head coaches have a better chance at being succesful at UF then coordinaotrs from big time programs imo.

I think if he's such an offensive genius, then he could be considered as offensive coordinator.

OC at Florida > Division II Head Coach

OC at Florida > Division II Head Coach

Coaches go from college ball to the NFL all the time -- sometimes it doesn't work out, sometimes it does. The two aren't completely different universes.

Bell just might get the job done, but I think Foley is going to hire someone who has plenty of experience being a head coach.

Hello gators, thanks for letting me on your board. Thought I'd chime in because I know a little about this situation. My highschool coach is good friends with Kerwin Bell and he says that in no way is Kerwin ready for a job like this and that he isn't the type of guy cut out to be a head coach or offensive coordinator at a big time school like Florida mostly because he doesn't put in the time and dedication that would be required for a job like Florida. You don't want someone who is gonna have to learn that aspect of big time coaching. Would be a disaster.

Why not Brian Schottenheimer while we're at it?

No head coaching experience. If your question was serious?

And that's precisely the problem. We don't need a gamble or to take out a flyer on someone...we need a legit, proven, big time hire.

You could have answered the question instead of being a pain in the arse.

Would you care to elaborate since this was meant to be a discussion as to why or why not Kerwin Bell should be considered?

He has ZERO experience at the BCS level even as a position coach. He isn't even a legit conference at the FCS level (all walk ons), and he isn't even doing that great there. He isn't qualified to be our OC let alone HC. He isn't even competitive enough to try and compete at a higher level.

Winning at UF is a different beast than even coaching at a place like TCU let alone a small FCS school. There is intense media scrutiny, fan pressure, expectations to win fast, and recruiting 18 year divas with inflated egos. Again, what has he ever done to remotely prepare him for a job like UF?

The obsession with this guy is ridiculous. They think he is the second coming of Spurrier, but it's based on very little. I'd rather Chris Leak be our HC. Hell, there is a coach at one of the smaller Ohio schools (Ohio? Toledo?) that was in the FCS last year that was destroying it way more than Kerwin ever did. Why not get him?

People are right when they say this would be a gamble, but it would be a very very bad one. Very low chance of success.
