Can We Have an Honest Discussion About What is Happening

I know this is a long shot since Internet message boards are for bitching and moaning and I'm sure this thread will be taken over in short order with "fire EJ" "fire Gus" "hire Muschamp" etc., but I'd really like to get some thoughtful dialogue.
True our D played and has been atrocious and we were killed with more penalties, but what happened to the offense besides dropped passes? The first drive was a thing of beauty. Is this a bigger issue than our D or is that all it is?
Did the coaches put too much pressure on the team to be 13 seconds better and after the A&M loss, the team has quit?
Is this a letdown season after the magic we rode all last year?
Is there something bigger going on, i.e. Gus losing the team bc of discipline we don't know about?
I feel like watching that game from the start, at least on tv, the UGA fans and team were pumped the entire time. It sounded and looked hostile as anything I have ever see on tv or in person.
Thoughts?

Penalties and Gus even admitted he started calling plays way too conservatively in that game. That did not help out offense.

I have no idea.
We're on our third defensive coordinator since we've had a serviceable defense. If we were actually playing fast, I could almost buy the "defense needs time to rest" argument.
Our special teams have quickly become garbage....didn't realize how valuable special teams can be by simply NOT SCREWING UP! Muffed punt returns, blocked FG's...these things are making a huge difference.
Our offense...good lord...I honestly expected them to be better than last year. NM may be a 'better passer' but we're still so inconsistent there that no one needs to respect that aspect of our offense.
AND THE PENALTIES. EVERYWHERE THE PENALTIES. ALL OVER WITH THE PENALTIES.
I have no idea what to fix...

I know the penalties have killed us. Thing is, we racked them up against OM, but still found a way to win.
The special teams penalties and turnovers really hurt against UGA - Bray and the roughing the kicker penalty essentially gave them 14 points.
I really hope this team regroups during the next two weeks and with the Samford game. I wonder if the coaches would open every starting position up and make these guys fight for their roles.

Penalties and playing it safe. Gus I think would want that 4th and inches back in the first quarter. Lack of senior leadership. Had a SR center mess up 2 weeks ago and we have a SR wr that fumbles punts. Our linebackers are scared to death when a true freshman running back hits a hole.

They quit after the aTm loss. Don't believe they have anything left to play for. Apparently pride isn't enough to get this team awake and ready to fight.
And a result of that is stupid mistakes and unmotivated ball.

I really want to believe that's exactly what it is because my biggest fear is there is the bad stuff going on behind close doors ala Chizik.
But if this is the case, should it concern us as fans that the coaching staff doesn't know how to motivate players or is it because the majority of these players are Chizik era players who have a different mentality?

Another question: did this team buy too much into the "team of destiny" last season and perhaps didn't work hard enough feeling like they had a security blanket?

I think we all thought Auburn offense would be get better week after week just like it did in 2013 and 2010. And it might have, but the defense collapsed. The offense kept at it but I think the two TAM fumbles cost a lot of confidence. Losing Duke meant it would be NM tossing to Coates- and who can't lose hope there?
I thought Gus would take what he has and make something of it, instead, with NM it seemed like they tried to recreate 2013 plus get NM to the Heisman by being a passer. Didn't work.
It's Gus' fault. But I'm sure with JJ being so different than NM it will be an opportunity to start on a clean slate.

This is the part that I absolutely don't buy. I could maybe understand the bad fit because of Chizik-era schemes, but not mentality.
These coaches got so much credit for changing the mentality of the team last year, but now we're changing our minds? They've had these players for almost 2 full years now.

This! The times the defense did make a stop, special teams screwed it up. Hitting the kicker and the dropped punt...

I agree. And I think that's why the offense has lost confidence and the defense can't win a game for you.

Passing game is lost without Duke.
Gus was too conservative on 4th and 1 when we still had momentum.
Defense started out playing well but couldn't overcome the two horrendous special teams errors.
Just think if we had blocked that punt and gone into the game tied at halftime like we should have. Instead we go down 10 and roll over.
Eventually when everything keeps going against you some people throw in the towel and that's exactly what we did.

Literally any other team would have blocked the punt but we some how missed the ball and tackled the kicker

Richt has our number and their fans are always hyped for our game. We haven't ever blown them out under him, the way they have done us. They've almost always played better than the season up to that point would suggest they would.
They have their choke games but it is never against us.

This has been huge this season. Carlson is decent on kickoffs although he can't boom em like Parkey did. Our punting is atrocious and coverage breaks down quite a bit. Last year I was confident we would drop the return man. This year I cringe hoping someone can trip the return man up.

I can agree with this quite a bit but I am not sure that is all that is wrong. I mean I truly do not know what has happened to this team.

Hasnt the offense been putting up numbers as good as or better than last year? Why are people even talking about the offense barring the UGA game? Am I missing something?
