How is it AU consistently plays subpar talent?

In the past four years we have started Aj Greene, Chad Slade, Jake Holland, Jared Cooper, John Sullen and many others.

We supposedly recruit well yet our team is littered with "starters" that would be hardpressed to see the field at Vandy.

Going forward it appears that this will change but wtf is going on? If I have to watch Chase Slade do his best matador impression or Jonathan Jones look like Radio out there again I may break my TV

What makes you think this?

I posted a thread a couple of weeks ago questioning whether we have SEC caliber player on defense. Looking at our current rooster, I can't think of single defensive player that will be drafted in the 1-3 round of the NFL draft. We can't be an elite SEC defense without top NFL talent.

We've had top ten recruiting classes for the past several year yet we still continue to field Sun Belt players as starters. There's something seriously wrong with the defensive talent evaluation and I'm not confident in it being fixed any time soon.

We haven't recruited well at every position. Some of the top players that got the rankings up so high were at the same positions.

Bc recruiting and prospect development is an in exact science... plus, we've hade three coaching staff changes in a six year period... that means several patchwork recruiting classes and guys who may not fit the systems.

Most of our D recruits have been 3* or less. Cass was a 4*, and Frost was a 5* ath. We haven't had a top rated LB in over 10 years. Also, our DB recruiting has followed that patteren as well. Our highly rated S's were bust.

No, he's played. Frost was at least a 4*.

Crazy to think AJ Greene, Chad Slade, Jake Holland, Jared Cooper, John Sullen, Neiko Thorpe, Clint Moseley, Kiehl Frazier, and others, were able to start for Auburn at some points in their careers.

Sometimes you just miss, or can't develop talent, though...

This is a good point the OP brings up.

If you look at our DBs, they are so small I wonder how we did so well last year. We've been under sized for about 6 years now at DB, no wonder we rely on pass interference to stop passes. Is it hard to recruit tough nosed, Landon Collins-like DBs? We field a bunch of pussies back there. Assuming Frost and Cassanova come back, with the addition of Tre Williams, I feel okay about our LBs. Lawson will be the DL anchor and hopefully Montravious Adams can find his spot. We will still suck at DB though. We cringe every time another team passes on us, and I don't see that changing next year.

I was begging for UGA to pass against us last night.

I believe Nieko Thorpe is still in the NFL.

Yeah, cool, he was one of the worst starting cornerbacks in Auburn history. Currently, in his NFL career, he has 7 total tackles and has primarily been a practice squad players. He's likely only signed at this time because he plays for the winless Oakland Raiders.

Adams had his spot as a DT and then the coaches came up with this great plan of making him and Wright lose weight so they could try that hybrid DE/DT bullshite.

We've spent the past couple of years trying to fit square pegs into round holes. As someone said earlier the multiple changes in coaching staffs have not helped our players but a lot of them are playing out of position in order to fit the new coaches scheme.

This is one reason I'm not calling for EJ's head. We have serious personnel issues that he is not solely responsible for. If we continue to change coaches every other year, things will never improve.

Has nothing to do with out talent. It has to do with how we are developing it. Or shall I say, not developing it

I don't think we could develop 4*s like Jake Holland anymore
