Who takes sick days for actual illness?

The wife and I took sick days today, of course we aren't actually sick. I can't remember the last time I was actually sick for a sick day. Probably never.
Do any of the managers here actually believe people are sick when they do this?

Got the flu earlier this year. That was a bitch and yeah, I took sick days.
But I'm not above taking non sick sick days. Sometimes a break is necessary for ones long term health so I figure it actually benefits my company.

Last time I took a sick day was 2006 when I had the flu.

I was thinking about posting this exact thing a few days ago.
When I'm sick, I always work. I figure, if I feel bad, I might as well work. The time to take a sick day is when you are feeling good and want to do something fun.

I do.

Not a manager, per se, but it depends on the person who is calling out as to whether or not I believe them.

Pretty much the only time I use them is when I'm sick.

What is this sick day you speak of?
If a person is self employed these sick days must be magical fairy days like not having to work weekends or holidays.

i only take sick days if my wife is sick and can't watch kids, or a kid is sick and she has to work (she works 2 days a week.)
so i've taken a total of 5 sick days in the last 10 years and none were for me. 2 of those were to have kids.

Same here. If I'm not working I'm not making money.

Sick days are unicorns when you're self-employed.
My employees are either sick or good fakers who have 1/2 a day to waste at the doctor's office: if they call in sick, they have to bring a doctor's excuse the next day.
Also, their off days are liberal: give a week's notice and get someone to cover your shift, you can take whatever you want, within reason.

Most people in my office just come in anyway and get everyone else sick.

Haha...what? For one day? That's awful.

That is pretty shitty. Here if you're out 3 consecutive days then it requires a doctor's notice.

You're a dick of a boss.

At my company, its allotted as PTO. People use it for a variety of reasons.

Valid reason. There's physical health and there's mental health. Both are equally important.

Before I was self employed and spent some time in management at a decent sized organization, the employees we hated the most were the women who insisted on coming in sick and spreading their germs.
Of course, they maxed out all their FMLA and comp time on bullshite, so they made a big show of "toughing it out" when they actually needed to stay home.
If you really are sick, keep your arse at home.

If I go all year without burning a sick day, the city cuts me a check for 2% of my annual salary, so I haven't used one in years. I just come to work sick. That $1,600 every November comes in handy right before Christmas.

I'm chuckling a little bit at how everyone is coming during work hours to post on this thread about working so hard they never take sick days.
Just sayin'
