The point of a movie is to develop a story. If done.Well enough , a prequel shouldn't be necessary.

I cant sit and watch a prequel without thinking "okay, I already know what's gonna happen". No suspense, no worrying what terrible fate will occur to your favorite character, nothing.

Anyone with me?

It really depends. X-Men: First Class, The Hobbit, Red Dragon, The Godfather II, etc. are a few I can think of off the top of my head that were pretty good. And I don't think they were out of bounds to do them.

But it seems like you either get a handful of really good ones or absolutely shite. Part of the issue is anymore Hollywood taps into already established fanbases for their money instead of branching out.

Planet of the Apes (didn't really care for the story, but well made,) Prometheus, monsters U, are the few that come to mind. But the OP is mostly true.

I did really like the prequel season of Spartacus. Ganicus mother****ers.
