Little Rock surprised me! Much better city than its reputation.

Our friends live on the northwest side of LR near Pinnacle Mountain. Beautiful country, newer subdivisions. In fact, they live at the base of the hill with all of the towers. Basically that hill lights up at night like a string of red Christmas light. Really pretty.

We visited the Clinton Library. I made the comment that it looked like a cross between a trailer and a silver Airstream RV sitting on glorified cinder blocks. Our friends acted as if they were insulted and then laughed and said, "Everyone calls it the trailer but it's actually pretty cool." They're liberal.

Personally, I liked the pedestrian bridge next to the library. Beautiful iron architecture with grand view of downtown and surrounding hills.

We ate lunch at Cajun's Wharf. This was during the game so essentially no one was there, which was nice because we got to choose our seat on the deck and drink under the 75 degree sun while staring off at the scenic beauty of the surrounding countryside and river. I would most certainly go back to Cajun's Wharf.

Downtown was FAR better than I imagined it would be. In fact, I think Little Rock has an excellent downtown, plus they sell Springfield, Missouri's very own Mothers Brewery beer. That surprised me. Yeah for Mothers Brewery expansion!!!

We visited the governor's mansion and took our picture in front of the Clinton bust. My wife happened to be wearing a little blue sundress and I said, "Hun...hold on a sec. Lemme do something really funny to your dress." I rubbed my thumb on a crumbling part of the white sidewalk and smudged her blue dress with white powder. Then I took a pic of her standing in front of the Clinton bust.

Once again our friends weren't necessarily amused when i explained what the heck I was doing.

On Sunday morning we drove downtown again to eat breakfast at Community Bakery. Very cool architecture. Trendy hipster type place. The service was subpar and very slow, but the food was great when it finally arrived. We purchased a few baked treats for our trip back to Missouri and those ended up being excellent. I'd go back again.

Before we left LR, we visited the Central High School Little Rock Nine museum. Very good interactive museum. Incredible architecture for a high school. Mind blown. Looked like a damn castle.

Obviously we took Hwy 65 back to Springfield, MO. I remember thinking that Marshall, Arkansas may be the most beautifully located small town in Arkansas. The sweeping views of the surrounding mountains were incredible.

It didn't hurt that we were listening to the airy sounds of The War on Drugs. The partly cloudy 70 degree day, the sweeping mountain views, the tidy little town, and The War on Drugs was a perfect little 5 minute moment.

Good times.

Glad you enjoyed the visit to our little part of Arkansas. Yes, like any city of size, it has some warts - but the people that put it down are largely biased and probably haven't really seen much of it.

ETA: by the way, the Clinton Library is not just any old trailer, it's a double wide!
Kind of shook my head when they revealed that design myself. (designed by a New York firm.)

it is beautiful up there. since we're being complimentary i just got back from mizzou and really enjoyed my time there. we went to lodge of four seasons in lake ozark for a murder mystery weekend. it was just fab- absolutely gorgeous drive this time of year and just a beautiful place all around. after that we headed to joplin for a few nights. each and every mizzou person i met could not have been any nicer any more helpful, etc.

Missouri and Arkansas, for all the shite talking we do to each other, are very much alike in a lot of ways.

I wanted to stop in Marshall and look around some antique stores but the wife simply wanted to get back home to our little girls.

I need to spend more time in LR and Fay to determine which one is better.

However, LR has the Alotian and Springfield/Branson now has Top of the Rock...so I'd say LR and Spfld/Branson >>>> Fayetteville.

You haven't been to LR unless you've bought a gram at the corner of asher and university.

Anything else is tourism.

Sounds like you guys are pretty familiar with the better neighborhoods. I generally have no reason to go there.
