And the only other time I remember Spurrier throwing the ball 50 times was against UGA in 09. And that game had at least 2 pass TDs called back for holding by the atrocious oline

Wasn't that the game where Garcia had us driving on the final drive but missed a wide open RB on 4th down?

The way I remember it was he should have run instead of throw the ball on 4th. But it wasn't an INT and he was consistent that game.

Thompson tried to land some balls on the moon last night and that has been a problem for him in every game hes played in.

With this defense, you'd be high to take back any of the other QBs. They couldn't keep up with Thompson.

Garcia is the only one who could and we all know how he is with interceptions. He tried to land some passes on Mars.

I'd definitely take Shaw, Mitchell and even Garcia.

Thompson isn't good to begin with and has proven himself to be a choke artist. All three of those guys would give us a better chance to win.

Mitchell and Garcia might have given some games away, but they also played way more games than Thompson.

Against UGA, Mizzou, and UK Thompson gave the game away late. We were very lucky UGA's kicker out herped his derp.

And against Auburn he had 3 INTs, two in the redzone. The first one was classic deer in the headlights looking Thompson that usually doesn't appear until the 4th.

Obviously the biggest issue with this team is the defense, but giving Thompson a pass because of it is ridiculous. He still sucks, especially when it matters most

I think you have a serious case of rose colored glasses my friend.

Everyone would take Shaw back. I think you're alone in wanting Garcia or Mitchell back. And Smelley? Come on man.

I'm pretty sure it is a pass for Thompson. For one, he wouldn't have to pass so damn much if the defense could actually stop anyone. Two, did you miss the part where our offense is on a record setting pace? If our defense was worth a crap and could stop anyone we'd probably be a 1 loss team at this point and no one would question Thompson.

I'd rather a guy throw 5 TDs in a choke job vs AU than just never show up like Garcia would for long stretches of the season.

Or if Thompson could stay composed and lead drives late in the game.

You're right. Thompson is scoring 35 points a game, it's his fault we're not scoring 45 to win these close games.

Well mike Davis, Pharoh Cooper, the oline etc are also contributing to the 35 ppg. They aren't contributing to the late game giveaways though

If only Garcia had future NFL players on his team to help his offense get 35 ppg.

He didn't have an oline. But this is pointless now.

I just think Thompson doesn't deserve a clean slate because of how bad the defense is. He tried to give the UGA game away, succeeded in giving the Mizzou and UK games away, and had critical turnovers in the redzone that ultimately costs us a win.

To say otherwise is just not true

A defense that's almost last in every category and you want to blame the QB. Only Carolina fans.

The one game that the defense showed up for, Thompson shite the bed.

And I've said several times that the defense is obviously the biggest issue with the team but that doesn't mean Thompson shouldn't be criticized for being bad

Who is saying he shouldn't be criticized? You're arguing for him to be benched and in a hypothetical world, Garcia or Mitchell replacing him.

That's a bit of a leap from "he shouldn't be criticized". He's not Shaw, but he's been decent and you seem to be keying in on his negatives more than the positives. Garcia and Mitchell both would have had more INT's and less TD's.

What needs to happen from here on out, is our offense needs to play with the same style. Pick up third downs instead of converting 4th downs, and get the backups some play time when we can to prepare for next year while hopefully winning out.

Thompson gives us the best chance, even out of Garcia and Mitchell. End of story.

Disagree. But it's pointless to argue about it.

I gotta disagree Cockopotamus.

Shaw is definitely #1 under Spurrier, no doubt about that.

To clarify my view and opinion on the rest of your ranking I need to go back a bit further first ... and ask everyone a question.

Instead of limiting the QBs to just those under Spurrier, how would you rank all QBs in SC history. And for the younger ones here, I'll list the ones that should be considered, the ones even remotely worth mentioning for whatever reasons.

Just name your Top 5 out of these listed before .... just 5. (I'm going to write down my five and I'll bet everyone will agree on at least four of them when all is said and done.) After y'all name your top 5 from this list I'm gonna show you something that might surprise you. Oh, and if you have any write-ins I may have missed, that's fine, include him.

Jeff Grantz
Ronnie Bass
Gary Harper
Allen Mitchell/Mike Hold
Todd Ellis
Bobby Fuller
Steve Taneyhill
Anthony Wright
Phil Petty

I was only 10-11 during Petty's years so I was just understanding what football actually was but the only issue I'd have with putting Petty up that high is that Holtz's offense never really gave him a lot of opportunities to shine. He sure did shine when he got the chance, but I don't think he had the opportunities to sling the ball around as much as the others on that list.
