Don't they have two other offensive linemen out too?

Likely. One is definitely out and the other (Marcus Jackson who happens to be our only good/SEC level lineman) is limping in practice.

We are the walking wounded on OL and QB and the scary part: we have less than a handful of OL players behind them. Never mind good ones, we are lacking in warm bodies.

An atrocious o line + injuries and lack of depth = a recipe for disaster on offense. If our D hadn't drastically improved like it has, we wouldn't be much better than Vanderbilt.

Back in the summer, I posted that Bama would hang 60 on the Vols...half-joking, of course. If it's Peterman's game tomorrow, I see lots of TOs and short fields for Kiffin to work his magic.

Vandy's oline is better than ours (experience matters so much at that position and they have 80+ starts whereas we have 6). If they had anything at all at QB and our D wasn't fantastic, I think Vandy would be a better team than us - our offensive line is just that bad and despite all the great WRs, Jalen Hurd, etc. that damned line effects everything on offense - every. single. thing.

What's sad is Vandy was gutted by Franklin and while most of their players are RS freshmen whereas ours are true freshmen, they're still playing froshies.

Peterman and Dobbs are both expected to play.

Seriously? That surprises me, with only 5 games left. Didn't Vol fans give Dooley grief for burning Worley's redshirt in the same game in 2011? What are most Vol fans saying about that?

We gave Dooley grief for burning Worley's redshirt with only a few minutes to go with Bama holding something like a 40 point lead. Simms wasn't hurt and Worley was never seen again.

In this case, Dobbs should've redshirted last year but never had the chance due to injuries. And we've been trying to redshirt him this year but again injuries look to be derailing that plan and we need to get to a bowl. We cannot afford to play Peterman unless he DRASTICALLY improves and I mean like this game. However, even Peterman is dinged up (a lot of folks don't know that but he is).

One other thing, Dobbs' parents were promised a redshirt year during his recruitment. They have given their blessing to burn it. I promise you if we burn his redshirt - he will start the rest of the year. Coaches aren't going to burn it for one game.

Yeah, that happens sometimes. And sometimes when you weigh everything, it's the best option. Saban was going to burn McCarron's redshirt against Texas if McElroy had gone down, because he had passed Star Jackson.

You make an interesting point about the parents. A redshirt can be a valuable thing for a recruit who probably doesn't have NFL prospects because they can get a masters degree paid for. That's not a small thing.

For Dobbs, it's especially important. Not only does he deserve a redshirt to aid his development but he's also majoring in honors aerospace engineering (to add to it, he's also in a specialized program at UT for the super-smart where you're allowed to choose/create a lot of your own options and coursework with approval and it's mostly extra/heavier work) and if you know much about engineering in general, the first two years are the hardest in terms of workload.

That said, Dobbs is quite close to genius level and is said to have an eidetic memory (aka photographic memory). I'm not 100 percent positive but I'm pretty sure he's at least a year ahead (I know for sure he got tons of credit from HS honors and AP courses). His first offers were all Ivy League.

Even so, you just don't burn a redshirt willy-nilly. And I do know for sure that it's been discussed with his parents because it was a promise made to them.
