Go to Frenchmen St. You can walk from the quarter. Tons of great bars with music.

Also check out tracy's on magazine to watch football on Saturday. If you don't like the scene there you can continue to walk down magazine further Uptown to find other bars.

the girl I was with got mugged and my friend slept outside of our hotel because someone stole his room key.

And you're obviously doing it wrong. Leave bourbon St next time. I usually try to avoid the quarter.

I'm a native. You should be worried and afraid of me banging your girlfriend/wife/sister/daughter. Bitches can't resist my culture.

I've been going to the Quarter for over 30 yrs, for all kinds of occasions, Super Bowls, Sugar Bowls, French Quarter Fest, Jazz Fest, N.Y.Eve, huge crowds, locals & out of towners, and have never had one lick of trouble, let alone like anything you profess to have experienced. But then mabe it's because my friends & I don't look like dumb asses & know how to act. Take any large city in America, block off 30-40 blocks, jam pack it with bars & clubs, mix in crowds of 1000's at a time, and you'd get major problems. N.O. and The Quarter know how to host major events & huge crowds: where else could you pack in Mardi Gras type crowds & have minimum problems? There is a reason why the NFL has brought the Super Bowl back a record 10 times.

I agree with this. This is around my 8th time coming to New Orleans, never a single problem. We may have jinxed ourselves, but I fully believe that it's all in who you're with. If your friends are picking fights or look like they want drugs.... Then I would find it easy to get into a bad situation. It's just like any other big city.

Thanks for the suggestions boys. I will make sure to give the rebs hell if I spot any. The faster freeze loses, the faster we will offer him the florida job. Wish I had time to get over to Baton Rouge tomorrow, but bachelor party calls.

As a Florida fan on Bourbon Street after Ole Miss loses (as we know that no one stays in Baton Rouge)? I will join the melt with you guys.

Nah, dude, you are safe so long as you stay in the well lit populated areas. If however you decide to venture up and down Canal Street too much, your parents and friends will get to see your picture on WWL TV.

No, not at all.
There's been several shootings on Bourbon Street............in the last DECADE.
Bourbon Street is 13 city blocks - over a mile long.
Now, if you wander off the edge of the Quarter at 3:00 in the morning ???? Or in Central City crackhouse areas ??? Maybe.

We were on Bourbon Street for hours when the Saints won the NFCCG and Superbowl a few years ago. Total strangers were hugging and high-fiving and dancing.
800,000 people descended on downtown New Orleans for the Super Bowl parade the Tuesday after the game - no murders or serious incidents.

Obviously, you're doing it wrong. It's one of the greatest cities on the planet. Those who think NOLA is just about Bourbon street and all that crap will more than likely run in to trouble in that area. The city has so much more to offer than that.

tell me where to go then good sir. All I've ever been around is the french quarter. Maybe some nice side streets and neighborhoods on the edges with some cool shops but I thought that was pretty much it.

Fauborg Marigny and Bywater have some great funky and happening clubs, restaurants, bars, and music/dancing places

Uptwon - St Charles Avenue area has wonderful hotels, restaurants, bars, and historic architecture and homes, not to mention the Streetcars.

Uptown - Magazine, Maple, and Oak Streeet are GREAT for locally owned restaruants - several that have been on the Food Network, and there are places to eat that specialize in EVERYTHING, art galleries, stores, and clubs.

Uptown - University area has some of the beautiful grounds and trees and magnificent Audubon Park and Zoo.

City Park has great golf courses, a Cafe du Monde, rides and trains for kids, gorgeous picnic areas near lagoons and the New Orleans Museum of Art.

The Warehouse District/Convention Center Blvd had some eclectic bars and clubs, in addition to some wonderful galleries and shops,

Downtown/Superdome has the huge Harrah's Casino and Hotel, Walkon's - winner of national best sports bar in America, Hotel Intercontinental,
and lively Fulton Street across from Harrah's with Manning's Restaurant, great holiday decor, stores, and bars and restaurants.
Also the historic Saenger Theatre has reaopened for plays and shows.

Lakeview has great seafood restaurants.

Metairie has great restaurants, malls, stores, and bars. (And traffic :)

the Northshore Covington and Hammond have incredible weekend walking tour Antique Car Shows, Arts and Craft shows, and festivals right in the middle of their historic downtown areas with fantastic restaurants.

Holy shite man get the frick out the French Quarter. Ive lived in NOLA all my life and I despise Bourbon Street. If youre in college head uptown and hit the boot then cab it to fnms and grits and you and your boys will have the time of your life.

If you're a little bit older (25 -30ish) hit one of the hotel bars then head to the warehouse district and hit rusty nail, lucy's, barcadia and end the night at Harrahs.
