When Bama plays on the road, Saban tends to be conservative. He doesn't want to take a lot of chances because if anything goes wrong, it fuels the crowd and the team can get rattled.

Sims is a better qb when the offense is full throttle. He's not suited to be a game manager. He needs to feel free to play loose and Kiffin needs to feel free to call his game. When that happens, Bama is one of the better offenses in the nation. When they try to go "game manager", things bog down.

To be fair though, special teams and the o-line have had as much or more to do with Bama's problems on the road as Sims.

Blake was not terrible at Ole Miss. He was average against a great defense with relentless pressure in his first road start. On top of that he was dealing with a freshman center for the 2nd half.

Blake was terrible at Arkansas.

He was also very good against West Virginia to open the season in a non-home game.

I agree. He played as well against Ole Miss as anyone else has.

Against Arkansas, the o-line played its worst game in years. Blake could have played better but a lot of the blame for his performance should go to them.

AJ McCarron had some bad games as a 1st year starter. It happens. Ive been extremely impressed with Blake Sims

Yep. He got flustered and started keying on Amari and things fell apart. You could just see the snowball rolling downhill the wrong way.

I do think Kiffin's inability to basically read the defense and adjust plays as easily on the road has an effect, but I hope we will see this weekend that Blake's Arkansas performance was an anomaly and not the norm.

Yep, and who remembers McElroy's miserable 3-4 game stretch in 2009 of Ole Miss - USCe - Tennessee- 1st half LSU? And that was with a much better running game.

Blake has been just fine. Totally exceeding all expectations.

I think that's part of the problem too. That sort of goes along with what I was saying before about going full throttle with the offense. If the defense is worried about adjusting to us, it makes it a whole lot easier to adjust to them.

Remember when Spurrier was at UF? He just "called ball plays" and forced the defense to try to figure out how to stop it. He could do that because he had superior talent at the skill positions. Bama has that kind of talent too.

Of course, I'm no coach so take it for what it's not worth.

Sims very rarely gets to his third read. It's Cooper, 2nd read, scramble.

While Cooper usually gets his first look, seems to me that many times Sims goes beyond his 2nd read...I think he some times stays in the pocket too long as opposed to tucking it away and running. In his worst game thus far, at Arkansas, both TDs came after he went thru multiple reads...

And while he's been much better at home, I thought he had a decent game at Ole Miss...not good, but decent...
