Veterans of the OTB, how many of you are members of a traditional VSO?

By traditional I mean the VFW, American Legion or the MOAA.
This is more directed at the younger crowd who I imagine dominate the poster population here.
If you aren't a member why haven't you joined and if you are, what has been your experience?

I pay MOAA dues; mostly for the access to healthcare supplemental insurance.

I'm a social member of VFW and Amvets at a couple posts in Illinois. Every time I go down there they're always super welcoming of younger folks. Lots of old timers bellied up to the bar every time I've been in one.

I give vets blowjobs out behind the VA on Thursdays from 6-10. Does that count?

I just drop in sometimes at the AMVETS near my Mom's house, really am not a member, but I am welcome anyway. Several really good musicians come there and i get a call to come by.
I have never even been to the V.A. because I remember seeing my uncle there when I was a kid, and back then, it was really bad.
If I need help, I will always have that card to play, but until then, I'm OK.

I'm a member of the nearest VFW and I have fun every once in a while but not many other veterans hang out there. As a matter of fact, I don't believe I've met one yet.

I'm an honorary lifetime member of the American Legion thanks to baseball.
I almost joined the VFW, but backed off after I saw all the old people shite they sent my buddy in the mail. If I ever want to drink with old guys who smell like an ashtray I'll join. That hasn't happened yet.
I do donate to the DAV and some other stuff though.

We did a unit BBQ at a VFW one time, I did the coordination. After visiting a VFW 3-4 times because of that, it convinced me if I wasn't a 50 something divorcee, the VFW was not for me. No offense to anyone who is a part of it, I just didn't fit.

I'm not. At this point in my life, I'm not interested in listening to people talk about how the VA owes them something or how they're getting fricked out of disability. Plus, I'd just as soon forget much of the shite from military service.
I guess what I'm saying is that I'd rather use it as a stepping stone rather than dwell on it. I've seen too many vets use it as their "glory days" and talk incessantly in class, bars, etc about their mil service. I gained much from being in and had some wonderful experiences. I know where to turn if I need the ear of a veteran. I've posted much more about it on this board than the number of times I've talked about it irl.
Edit: I don't mean that negatively to any here that are a member of a local post.

Legit.
I talk about it with the friends I served with.
I have no inkling to get into a pissing contest about my time and what I did. Never have, never will.
