Heavy is the head that wears the crown; it’s funny how the narrative tends to change at the drop of a dime when you’re perennially the best.

For the now 6-1 Alabama Crimson Tide, a razor-thin loss to an extremely formidable Ole Miss Rebels squad, coupled with a 14-13 victory over the the University of Arkansas, provided critics and pundits alike with the necessary ammunition to proclaim the Tide’s dynasty to be in full-on collapse mode.

A far cry from two weeks prior when Bama was the toast of the town after a 42-21 domination of the University of Florida — where everything seemed to be in sync.

The chatter, centered mostly around quarterback Blake Sims and offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin, will be quieted down (at least for a week) after Alabama took the Texas A&M Aggies out behind the woodshed and delivered a thoroughly convincing 59-0 butt-whipping in Tuscaloosa.

While the rhetoric may change on a weekly basis, in regard to Sims and the offense, one thing has remained constant: The Alabama defense is playing as well as its ever played under head coach Nick Saban.

That’s a scary thought, people. For the rest of the conference, that is.

It is astounding how different the defense was that took the field against WVU versus how dominant they are now. I don't think I've ever seen a unit improve as much as this one has.

I made a thread after that first game warning people of blowing up about this. We freaked out about the offense last year after facing VT and they turned around to have a top 10 defense.

Trickett has had 300+ passing yards in every game and is 3rd in the country in yards. We were covering Amari Cooper's best competition for the Biletnikoff and the leading WR in the NCAA with a guy who hasn't really seen the field since then.

WVU is currently sitting 4th in total offense, 5th in passing, and 2nd in 3rd down conversion. We held them to one offensive TD.

The thing about it too is that it isn't just that our competition has gotten easier. TAMU was a top ten offense before Saturday. No disrespect to WVU, but if we played today I think we'd have a much more dominating defensive performance.

That being said, I am still holding out hope that WVU will somehow win the B12. Would be an ultimate punch in the gut to the schedule complainers.

Best line in the article:

"After all, Texas A&M piled up a mountain of points and yards behind generational quarterback Johnny Manziel, while the University of Auburn snatched a spot in the title game away from Bama behind its innovative spread-to-rush offense."

Oh for sure. Just having Depriest and Eddie Jackson/Tony Brown out there alone would make a huge difference.

Same, especially considering Auburn fans are pumping up their KState win so much.

Plus it would provide me more ammo to make fun of the schedule whiners in the offseason because as per usual whining about a schedule before any actual games are played may be one of the dumbest things that board does.

If WVU's defense plays like they did against Baylor they have a really good chance. They're criminally underrated right now considering their losses are only to us and Oklahoma.

I agree about overreacting to the WVU game. They are a good team and Kevin white is a baller. Most of yall won't agree but I actually think Bradley Sylve deserves another chance to show what he can do bc white is toasting everyone.

But in the same regard, I think we need to make sure we don't overreact to the a&m game. Those frickers quit after about the first quarter. I expect the sisters of the poor to give better effort than that.

Isn't that the goal of our defense?

For the first time since the ND game we actually made our opponent's asses quit.

Exactly. They could easily be a one loss (or undefeated!) team.

Posters were using that West Virgina game to bash the team after Ole Miss and Arkansas and that West Virgina game is our most impressive victory this season.

(Can't be A&M, after all we won big and anytime we won big it's because the team we played sucks... even though A&M has only lost to teams ranked in the top 4)

I loved Mosley but he might not be top five.

Yeah i love CJ but there is absolutely no way he is better than Derrick Thomas. I don't see how he is better than Lee Roy either. I think the next group is probably Ro, CJ, and McCants
