This pisses me off probably more than losing. I'm old fashioned like that I guess. It's been going on at least since the Sugar Bowl too. Don't share the wins if you won't share the defeats.

Then there's Darren Kitchens the only one after Sugar Bowl to sing it. Yeah, I agree with you there.

eta: covered in OPs link as well

I said in an earlier post that there just doesn't seem to be a "team", it's just a bunch of individuals who seem to...not care about the program.

Where's Muschamp during these?

I'm being serious, and this will be the only "nice" thing I say these next 2 weeks...but that legitimately makes me sad. I understand after losing you just kinda want to shell off and not have everyone looking at you, but those pictures really do make me feel bad that those are the only guys who care enough to carry on the tradition.

It's too late for Muschamp, but the next coach needs to fix this asap!

There's a life lesson to learn here that extends beyond football.

I saw that and it made me sick. This is past Boom at this point. Foley needs to do something.

It's pitiful that this keeps happening.

Apparently Weis did the same thing at Notre Dame, an about face Brian Kelly has continued and recently caught heat for himself.

To me school pride is greater than a score.

You're not old fashioned, imo. Singing the Alma Mater means something and shows respect for the band as well. This kind of thing also shows these players recognize they're student atheletes.

To my knowledge ours is still played at the end of half-time (just before the game restarts) and sung then - the PA announcer also asks only Alums to sing but it's often sounded to me like both students and others join in, especially when we had the words printed on every cup and scrolled them for all to see on the Jumbotron. We typically play RT and the Tennessee Waltz to close out games but for any school that plays their Alma Mater at the end of the game/expects players to participate it should be done.

Kudos to your players who did so.

Oh and thanks for letting me in. This may well cost me major Vol cred but IDC. I enjoy Sparty and a few other gator posters, especially when you're not giving us hell.

ETA: Also agree that fans need to share in the pain/losses to have a right to the wins. Otherwise, it makes them fairweather to some degree, though some can get so heartbroken after years and years of pain they may need a break for a few games before they can come back.

It's been many, many years ago but I don't recall ever singing the alma mater as a former player. Got on the field quick and off the field even quicker. When did it become a requirement? Do the players even know? A great majority of players would take a knee (from both teams) and say a quick prayer that no one got injured, respect for each other, be an example, etc. I'm not quite sure it's a smart move to stay on the field afterwards, especially after a disappointing loss where a few fans might become hostile.

It was a "tradition" that was started under Meyer. I don't remember the players ever doing it during the Spurrier and Zook years.

Good points.

My high school and the two different institutions I went to for my BS and MA stayed out there for it, so I always thought it was the norm. However, I can see the other side of it.
