Was lurking on the Aggie board and saw a discussion centered around "is the team culture a problem (i.e. does Sumlin run too loose of a ship?)".

ThirdSpur brought up the point that the type of culture a head coach instills or allows (hard-arse vs. players' coach) is irrelevant as long as the team is winning. He cited "the U" as an example of a loose culture that still produced wins.

One thing that people don't realize about those teams was that in spite of the free rein of Dennis Erickson there was tremendous internal pressure from the players themselves established during the Jimmy years. The Michael Irvins, the Blades brothers, Cortez Kennedys of the world demanded you bring it in practice and games or you'd get your arse whipped. Do all the whoofing you want, but you better step up when it counts or WE will handle it.*

That, more than anything, is what it appears to me that A&M is lacking. First sign of adversity and they folded their tents.

*Honestly, I think that's what the '10 & '13 Bama teams lacked, too.

There is plenty of talk out there that Sumlin runs a loose ship. But who knows. Those environments work as long as you are winning. It quickly unravels when you are not.

As much as Sumlin has been loved by aTm fans, that love affair will end quickly at the current rate. All the things he doesn't do right will be focused on and be the same excuses they use to run him out of town..... lack of discipline, excessive drug usage, poor defenses, gimmick offense. And as cool as it was when it happens, don't be surprised when they all the sudden remember that - oh by the way, he's black.

He was probably searching for the rest of of your bros. 3 straight A&M losses has done wonders for this board.

In 2012 we had veteran guys like Spencer Nealy, Ryan Swope, Jake Matthews, Patrick Lewis and Sean Porter who provided the internal leadership. We don't have that on this team.

when you have a players coach and no internal leaders it means a fricked program.
