Red Zone D- .579- Ranks 2nd Nationally

Interceptions- 11- Ranks 4th Nationally

Sacks- 21- Ranks 10th Nationally

4th Down Defense- .222- 10th Nationally

Tackles for Loss- 47- 11th Nationally

3rd Down Defense- .238- Ranks 12th Nationally

This is not a great defense, but this is a very good defense. It's proven to be a D that might bend but doesn't break, and with an offense as good as ours, that is all we need. Hope everyone is comfortable with State being at the top spot in the polls, because I don't see anyone knocking them out of it.

Except when FSU beats ND on our off week.

Since when is stating facts a "melt". Also melts don't happen when you are #1 team in the nation.

This seems like a pre-melt.

Red zone D has been nasty.

Where does our scoring D and total D rank?

I would prefer to be #2. Then we'd play in NOLA instead of Pasedena.

This is our plan. That's why we're slow playing the country.

State's secondary is not great regardless of what UAB did to them.

Everyone knows the strength of MSU's D is the front 7. Secondary is average. Luckily for MSU, a good front 7 can mask back 4 deficiencies.

Most of the yards given up are off of big pass plays. In the red zone, our front 7 is too good and teams can't take the top off our defense.

Auburn was 87th in total defense last season.

I am guessing that our defensive stats will improve a bit as the year goes on.

This was evident to anybody who watched the Auburn game. Duke Williams was wide open for a 20 or 30 yard gain on the first deflected pass that turned into an interception for State. You then had the 70 or 80 yard pass to Coates that was called back

Batted balls are easier to intercept.

Next time you're coaching Duke, tell him not to push off; when you extent your arm to do so, you greatly increase the chance OPI will be called.
