also ran program. He will probably be a coach in the big 5 soon. Down the road when NS decides to retire would he even be considered assuming he has success at a power 5 type school.

McElwain had his own issues, but it wouldn't be a bad hire. I think he stays out West though.

He wouldn't be a bad hire but he's a West Coast guy and isn't exactly a cutthroat recruiter.

Like the others have said, it wouldn't be a bad hire. I don't think it'd be a great hire either, though.

If it isn't Kirby, then our next HC needs to be the best we can get. No more settling. Pay anything, idgaf if someone wants 12 million, pay them.

He would kill it at Bama b/c everyone else is geared towards stopping the spread. That's why I think Arky will start winning next season and beyond with Bielema at the helm.

Am I the only one that thinks this will be much sooner rather than later? So I guess to answer your question, I don't think McElwain will be given any consideration because he's not going to have time to continue to develop as a coach.

based on his frustration on the sidelines with this team the last few games I bet he goes home many nights and asks Ms. Terry if it is time for him to hang it up. Why wouldn't you want to go out on top. Too many coaches hang on like joe PA and they leave on a not so good season. Even Bear had a few sub par seasons before his last. I don't want him to retire but looks like he is also holding Kiffin back.

I don't think anybody wants to see him go, at least not for another 10-15 years until he becomes senile like a Bobby Bowden But I just feel like he's not going to be around too much longer, and I know I'm not the only one. But on this board it seems like everybody thinks it's a given he'll be here 5-6 more years.

Most people thought he'd be gone by now, I don't see him leaving until he ties/surpasses Bear or he thinks he can't. He is too driven and too stubborn to retire while Bear has more titles and he is in reach. Honestly just one more and I'd call Saban the GOAT, doesn't even need to get 6 for me. He's done it in CFB with more parity than ever.

While I could see our next coach possibly being McElwain or Smart, it's just a guess, but I'm thinking Dabo Swinney would probably be a strong candidate...especially if they're lookin' for a successful coach from a Power 5 conference...

If it's Dabo, just fold the program. That OC of his is the main reason why he's winning.

Maybe...but he's young, he recruits well, and players like playing for him. Figure he'd recruit even better at Bama with the resources at his disposal...and if he found a good OC at Clemson, I'm guessing he could a coax a good OC to come to Bama...

I could be wrong, but I don't know if many other established coaches would want to follow Saban at Bama...the expectations will be unreasonable and Saban's record will be hard to live up to. Swinney has Bama ties so I could see him coming home...

I vote not to Dabo even getting a sniff. He lets his rowboat mouth overload his battleship arse on a few occasions.

That would be conventional wisdom and who could blame him if he did? But, I don't really think he's the kind of man for retirement. He likes to be in the action and in the lead. Can you imagine him in Lou Holtz's position at ESPN? Imagine him going off on a rant about some other team and have to wear a helmet when he appeared on some campus, a la Bryant in '64, when they played those wet blankets at Georgia Tech.

As for Smart, considering the offers he's had, you do have to wonder. There are some people who perfectly happy being the number two man. And money wise, he's the third highest paid assistant in the country (there are 61 D1 head coaches who make less than him). But considering he's interviewed at several places when they had vacancies and ended up not taking them, it does make you wonder if he and Saban have discussed his future advancement possibilities at UA (would CNS take the AD job if Battle retired?) or if he's waiting for one a specific job opening. On the other hand, getting interviewed for a job somewhere else is always a good way to get your current employer give you a raise. Personally, I'd hate to be the one who follows Saban. No room for error or learning on the job.

Son you have that right. I remember back in the early 70's the Bear had two 6-5 seasons. Everyone talked about how old he was. Probably should retire. Then he put in the Wishbone. Can any of you young punks tell me what happened then?

Nice article about Coach Mc and Dee Hart:

quote:

The performance didn't escape his former teammates either, with multiple UA players taking to Twitter to brag on their guy.

Hart still communicates with his guys, players like DeAndrew White, Nick Perry, Christion Jones and Trey DePriest. He hears from Alabama fans, too.

"At Alabama, when they say 'We live it' that's real," Hart said. . They really live that football, that family, just that whole football life."

McElwain, too, treasures his years in Tuscaloosa, and his family will always remain connected. His three children, JoHanna, Elizabeth and Jerret, have or will graduate from the University of Alabama.

"It's certainly a special place that I would have never in my wildest dreams thought I'd ever had a chance to be at a place like that.
