Why does Arkansas give LSU so much hell every year but then get destroyed by Alabama?

And don't give me that god damn :rivalry: excuse LSU fans, cause we all know your rather odd policy on that ish

For some reason we struggle with Arkansas - even when they're bad and we're good. Part of it has been the timing at the end of the year. They often have nothing to lose and we play tight.

Styles also make match-ups.

In previous years, teams that wanted to beat LSU had to be able to score a pretty good number of points. It wasn't enough to not beat yourself, like Bama generally would do vs. LSU. LSU was built to win ugly, low scoring contests, particularly with outstanding kick returners.

It also seems to be a general LSU trend to start a year a little sloppy, tighten up the penalties and discipline in the middle of the schedule, then get back to sloppy at the end of the year. While it might not be a cause, it certainly hasn't helped.

We'll see if the changes to each school's styles and the timing of their head to head matchups will have any effect on the pattern of outcomes.

Yeah, that's as good of an explanation as any. Arkansas has also had years where they started off bad and got a lot better toward the end of the year. They were winless in the SEC last year though, so they didn't improve that much (just lost closer games). LSU also plays down to opponents at times.

I think tomorrow's Bama/Arkansas game is going to be different though. I'm impressed with their physical style.

Didn't seem to matter when the game was for the Sugar Bowl on both sides.

This is true. We're always a much better team at the end of the year and more so then others. The early date of the Alabama game has often been a huge problem for Arkansas. One of the things we like most about our new schedule is playing Alabama a little later.

Also worth mentioning that Arkansas nearly had the series with Alabama tied before Saban arrived, so he's obviously a big part of it.

it's the playing styles. lsu is just physical enough up front to complete with bama. We weren't. but we are just physical enough to compete with LSU up front

I'd say since Miles has been at LSU, that was the only Arkansas that was 'better' than the LSU team they played.

2005-2007 LSU was more talented, and all were close games.

2008-2009 the gap closed. I think they were about equal.

As I said, I think the 2010 Arkansas team was better.

2011 LSU was just phenomenal. And Arkansas was a great team, unfortunately for them.

2012-2013 the wheels came off, but both were close games.

Nobody knows really. I think that Les and the Tigers always seem to play to their competition. No matter how good they are.

I'd take the 2006-7 Arkansas teams here, but I agree with the rest.

The discrepancy didn't exist until Saban came to bama.

Losing several in a row also starts to get into the player's heads, and we haven't just been beaten, we've been abused the last two years.

We're so emotionally fragile vs bama that any odd bounce of the ball in bama's favor throws us into a "here we go again" loser mentality.

Yep. That's why they discombobulated aTm while 'Bama got rolled two years in a row by JFF's offense.
