I'm probably the only who will rank them this way, but I personally thought:

Mosley
Hightower
Ro

pure ability:

Mosley
Ro
Hightower

leadership:

Ro
Hightower
Mosley

Overall if I had to draft knowing what I know now:
Mosley
Hightower
Ro

CJ
Ro
Hightower

..basically the only way you can rank these, IMO.

Ro would be number 1, but he was never the greatest against the pass. CJ could stuff you on the run and be dominant against the pass on the next down.

RO
CJ
Hightower

RO was starting as a true frosh making all the calls on defense. He was DPOY in 2009 and left early. I love CJ but Ro is the best defensive player I have seen at Alabama (since I became a fan in 1997).

Don't let his off the field stuff cloud your thinking.

It's close, but based solely on how they performed in college, I'd go with:

Ro
Hightower
Mosley

Stats-wise, you could make an argument for any of 'em...but from a leadership standpoint, I think Ro was undoubtedly the best. He was the undisputed leader on defense and had no problems gettin' the D fired up. He made all the calls and made sure every one was in position; it was like having a coach playing out there on the field. I recall watching games from the '09 season...and whenever we played spread teams and they'd look to the coaches for the play (based on the defensive posturing), McClain would usually step up and change the D (with direction from Smart)...

I don't think we've had a player since Ro that had such a good grasp of exactly what Saban/Smart wanted to do on defense...

He's absolutely one of the best defensive players I've seen. Derrick Thomas was the best I have, but that's a whole nuther discussion.

The only reason I put CJ over Ro, is because of his ability to drop into coverage. I feel he could do that better and makes him all around a little bit better. I don't think you go wrong with either of them as first though. With Hightower very closely behind.

I think Ro and CJ are 1a and 1b.

CJ was the most versatile LB I've seen at Bama.

Ro was more tenacious and could really rally the troops like no other.

If we had either right now, we would be undefeated.

CJ was probably the best. He could cover the field, was a machine-like tackler, and a leader.

Hightower was my favorite though. One of my favorite players of all time.

Damn, we were spoiled. Going from one to another with almost no noticeable dropoff. Will be interesting to see if we ever get that play from our mlbs again.

Ro was, and still is, my favorite player under Saban.

He's crazier than a shite house rat, but he was a beast for us.

Ro was crazy, but I'm here to tell y'all Brooks Daniels was crazier. I think Brooks recorded more tackles in his career too, even though he didn't play out his eligibility. He was my favorite bama LB in the period between DT and Ro.

Mosley (#3), Hightower (#4), and Ro (#5) are in the top 5 of PFF's ILB ratings so far.
