Those of yall in ATL know that Fran comes on 680 from time to time. I've always wondered why he isn't more celebrated at UGA, and Buck brought up that point yesterday on air but didn't really answer it.

Any insight? I know that statistically his performance at UGA hasn't held up as elite, but it was a different game then. In my three years at UGA, I can't recall a single conversation or reference to him, and I thought it was interesting that Buck implied there was a backstory to a potential riff between him and the school.

Well as far as a potential riff, I dont' really know but I do know he seems to talk mad shite about us whenever someone asks his opinion. So he seems bitter about something.

As for his legacy, idk. He was good for us and won an SEC title, but buck won a lot more. Personally I think buck is overrated as hell. The thing is all our players in history that are REALLY celebrated (sinkwich, herschel, buck, pollack, etc) all won big time. Fran was a good QB but he didn't really win anything other than an SEC title.

aaaahhhhhh so that's why you hate us so much eh?

but as to your point, most casual fans attending UGA haven't heard of him for the reasons I mentioned above. Unless you've been raised a diehard since birth, most students will have only heard of the big name people.

To be fair, I hated you before. Then I went to UGA, grew to like Athens and became a little more civil. I graduated the year before 2010 and Cam, and it threw me right back into hatred.

I can understand re: Fran's comments, which always seem at least somewhat harsh. But, with such a strong pro career, I still think it's a little weird UGA doesn't claim him more.

Meh. Terrell Davis was an NFL star but didn't do much here. We tend to really memorialize the ones that accomplished a lot while on campus. But like you said I don't know why fran doesn't have a stronger legacy.

One of the best little-known stories from our history is in the '59 auburn game which won us the SEC title. It was a 4th down late in the game with us trailing. Fran gathered up our huddle and literally drew up a play in the grass which we completed for a TD.

Buck is the most overrated QB in the history of College Football. You hear more about Buck because he is still around and Fran you know actually has a life and did other things.

Fran is a turd.

Buck acts like he's the coolest cat in Atlanta. Dude is so full himself. He did win a Natty so I guess he has that.

nah, you hear more about buck because he had the greatest cfb player ever to hand the ball off to, plus that one pass he threw where the receiver did the rest of the work.

I like buck, he's a DGD, but man he is overrated.

he has a ring but I wouldn't say HE did all that much.

In the national title game he was 1 for 13 for 7 yards.

Unlike most non-UGA fans I know, I don't mind Buck too much. He's a homer and he can get annoying, but he makes for decent enough radio, I think.

Reminds me a lot of Jay Barker at Bama...in the '92 national title game, Barker was 4-13 for 18 yards and 2 INTs...if you would've told me beforehand that our QB would've had those stats against the U, and that we'd still win by 3 TDs, I'd have thought you were crazy...I guess a strong running game can make up for a lot...

Auburn for undergrad. There is a hierarchy of allegiance on the MSB.

I think the rift is because he seems to be, by nature, a highly critical person with a good dose of arrogance. He loves UGA and is very opinionated about the program, coaches and players. His mouth has no filter. He says publicly what he thinks and that rubs a lot of people the wrong way. I can see why the University and Athletic Department don't go out of their way to celebrate his legacy. He has been highly critical of most everyone since Goff. A lot of bridges have been burned. He isn't exactly the guy they feel all warm and fuzzy about asking back to honor when he consistently criticizes the hell out of them. A lot of us fans are not bothered by a guy who doesn't sugar coat everything and calls it how he sees it but then again, we are not the ones being criticized. Kevin Butler gets as close to that as possible without going to far. I am often surprised that he still has a role in the post game show with some things he said the last few years.

Been a fan of Fran for a long time. He was fun to watch in the NFL with his scrambling abilities, so it's interesting to read what UGA fans think of him.
