Call me crazy but Butch is much better off staying in Knoxville even if he's offered the job (which he probably won't be). Michigan is a dumpster fire. Even moreso than Tennessee.

My thoughts as well. If Butch Jones is really generating interest from Michigan, then that tells me he already has UTk back on the right track and that is more than can be said about UM at the moment.

Butch would be insane to leave for Michigan when you consider the type of roster he is going to have for the next couple of years at UT. He's almost done with the hard part, which was purging the roster of all the Dooley players and bringing in a couple of great recruiting classes before he's really done anything of note.

Butch would be in as bad or worse of a situation at Michigan next year compared to what he walked into in Knoxville in 2013. Plus I'm sure his buddy Rich Rod has tons of glowing things to tell him about Ann Arbor.

Jones has no connection to Michigan other than being from the state and their fans pining over him. So no, not worried.

IMO, it would be a really bad decision to leave UTenn for Meeeechigan - now or some other time.

No doubt. I'm sure this will help Jones get a nice raise though - and one he very much deserves at this point. His name has been floating around since the season started and he gets mentioned more and more as Michigan continues to crumble but I doubt it's more than the nation recognizing what a job he's doing here despite the defecits we still face. And next year's roster should be drool-worthy in comparison to this one - the only question next year will be how long does it take Dobbs to settle in as QB (although I'm sure the fans will speculate on Dormady and Jennings).

Butch wouldn't leave for Michigan if given the opportunity.. but I can't see them going after a guy from the Rich Rod coaching tree in the first place.

Tennessee is a better job than Michigan right now. The SEC east is wide open for the taking over the next 5 years.

So you're saying he gets two more years.

No, I have a contact in the Tennessee AD, and they are all extremely happy and pleased with Butch. If Michigan makes an offer, Tennessee will no doubt make a counter offer to keep him there.

And for that same reason, I hope it happens.

After lane leaving no way they let Butch leave without trying.

From what I hear, the Dooley years hurt them more.

And to expand on that, if you ever think a team is silly for firing a coach early in the year, Dooley is an example of why. It was so clear he was going to lose his job that he and his staff did very little towards recruiting better players in his final year. You are much better off hiring an interim coach who might feel like they have a chance to prove themselves.

When they know they are done, time to let them go.

Absolute truth. Lane blew up one class and set the place on fire on his way out (but it was a fire that could've been put out) - Dooley set off the equivalent a nuclear bomb.
