I, for one, am glad that we seem to be getting overlooked once again. This will give the staff a motivational tool. Plus, maybe it causes a team or two to look past us as well. I mention this because Ginger/Taylor on XM - 1st Team were implying that both SCar and UGA had already played their toughest game of the year. And thus, both could win out.

The message was set before the season.. Auburn was just lucky, no skill. Feeling confident about Thursday.

Nobody will be looking past us because our ranking. We're still a top 5 team that is defending SEC champs and national runner ups. Let's be somewhat serious here

We're ranked #5 in the AP and coaches poll. We're obviously not being overlooked.

i agree with OP. This is a welcomed development. I feel that the turds across the state are enjoying some of the same. The week 1 love fest for uga/atm really seemed to take the media's attention. We just need to improve and worry about Auburn anyway.

Being underhyped by media does not mean other teams are overlooking us.

This. I know it's auburn fans M.O. to look for perceived slights so that we as fans can cry 'disrespect' but I was really hoping that this whole "new day" thing applied as much to fans fragile egos as it did the team.

"Nobody talked about us last year, either. That's fine with me," Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said. "Our goal is they're talking about us at the end and that's really the only thing on our mind. We don't get caught up in predictions, and this and all that. Our goal is to get better each week and our goal is to try to repeat as SEC champs."

A win at No. 20 Kansas State (2-0) Thursday on ESPN could help bolster the Tigers' image, sure, but Auburn doesn't seem concerned with the perception of a lack of respect.

"For the most part we've embraced it," Auburn linebacker Kris Frost said. We've always played with a chip on our shoulder. I don't think that's ever going to change."

Doesn't change the fact that people will circle is because we are defending SEC champs

Definitely. Good thing to be plying the underdog nationally and against the team we play at the tail of the season. Realistically, bama's spot as ESPN poster child is unenviable. They are the Elvis Presleys of college football.....media sycophants constantly telling them how great they are......it's a wonder they haven't already OD'ed on the shitter.

We're the MJ of fan bases. Deal with it.

Exactly what I was saying. I like it, and it can serve as motivation.

I bet some of you will say that the attention uGA got wasn't a factor in the SCar loss either. Of course it isn't THE determining factor.

"Nobody will be looking past us because our ranking. We're still a top 5 team that is defending SEC champs and national runner ups. Let's be somewhat serious here"

So in your zest to say I was wrong, you take the one item I said "MAYBE" about and paint that as the entire premise of my OP?

"Doesn't change the fact that people will circle is because we are defending SEC champs"

Doesn't change the fact that some will still discount what we did. Even if they claim to be taking us serious. See how easy that is?

Many a team has fallen after reading their own press too often. Just as many have fallen after believing another team's press. It shouldn't ever happen, but it does.

Yeah, I think there needs more of a "disrespected" mantra with our team more so than with our fanbase. We are ranked #5 for goodness sake. Our guys need to feel they have to earn respect every week.
