Scoring Defense

LSU leads the conference and is 2nd nationally at 8 ppg. (A&M is 5th in the conference and 13th nationally at 13.7 ppg)

Red Zone Defense

Mississippi State leads the conference and is 2nd nationally at 33%: 1FG&1TD/6 tries (A&M is 5th in the conference but 80th nationally at 80%: 2TD&2FG/5 tries)

3rd Down Defense

Tennessee leads the conference and is tied for 3rd nationally at 23.3% (A&M is 10th in the conference and 37th nationally at 32.7%)

Sacks

Missouri leads the conference, averaging 4/game, and is 8th nationally. (A&M is tied for 3rd in the conference and 21st nationally at 3/game)

Tackles for Loss

Mississippi State leads the conference, averaging 9.3/game, and is tied for 5th nationally (A&M is 10th in the conference and tied for 47th overall at 6.3/game)

All those matter, but total defense and yards per play are also vitally important when evaluating the quality of the defense.

All the major defensive stats are heavily inter-related anyway.

You can't judge any of them in a vacuum and you have to look at them all at once.

Somehow, when the game was 41-0 at the time it was called, I don't think the odds were in FAU's favor.

.5 quarters less. Well, except Florida (cancelled game) and Georgia/Auburn, which already have taken bye weeks.

Also scoring defense can still be misleading, as Defensive/Special Teams scoring plays are still counted in them.

More like 8:00 less minutes.

FAU had like 150 yards and 7 first downs, something tells me they weren't about to explode for a couple late garbage time TD's.

That counts for scoring offense too. Let's review:

Alabama has allowed one ST TD, 1 offensive TD, and 7 field goals. They scored 7 field goals and 16 offensive TDs.

Arkansas has allowed 9 offensive TD, 1 FG, and 1 defensive TD. They scored 20 offensive TD and 1 FG.

Auburn has allowed 4 offensive TD and 2 FG. They scored 12 offensive TD, 1 defensive TD, 1 ST TD, and 2 FG.

Florida has allowed 3 offensive TD and 3 FG. They scored 7 offensive TD, 5 defensive TD, and 6 FG

Georgia has allowed 9 offensive TD and 1 FG. They scored 3 FG, 8 offensive TD, and 1 ST TD.

Kentucky has allowed 4 offensive TD and 4 FG. They scored 12 offensive TD, 1 defensive TD, and 6 FG

LSU has allowed 3 offensive TD and 1 FG. They scored 15 offensive TD and 3 FG.

Mississippi State has allowed 4 offensive TD and 3 FG. They scored 17 offensive TD, 1 ST TD, and 1 defensive TD.

Missouri has allowed 6 offensive TD and 3 FG. They scored 17 offensive TD, 1 defensive TD, 1 ST TD, and 1 FG.

Ole Miss has allowed 5 FG, 1 safety, and 2 offensive TD. They scored 16 offensive TD, 2 defensive TD, and 2 FG.

South Carolina has allowed 6 FG and 12 offensive TD. They scored 12 offensive TD and 5 FG.

Tennessee has allowed 7 offensive TD, 1 defensive TD, and 2 FG. They scored 10 offensive TD and 4 FG.

Texas A&M has allowed 5 offensive TD and 2 FG. They scored 22 offensive TD and 3 FG.

Vanderbilt has allowed 11 offensive TD, 2 defensive TD, and 5 FG. They scored 3 offensive TD, 2 defensive TD, 1 ST TD, and 1 FG

Yards allowed are a good measure too. Legit teams don't throw away points every time they put together a solid drive

Teams get stuffed on 4th down quite often instead of taking field goals. Does that qualify as "throwing away points"?

I've been really happy with our performance on 3rd down. Opposite of Dooley teams
