Rankings based on past performance, roster talent level, and my own personal eye test.

Week 1

1. Georgia, 1-0
Last Week: Beat Clemson 45-21
Next Week:@ South Carolina
Key Stat: Todd Gurley had an insane 198 yards on 15 carries putting him at the forefront of the Heisman conversation
BamaDoc14's Take: UGA looked to have it all in this game. Their defense, especially the DL and linebacking corp is stout, and with their running back rotation, Hutson Mason just needs to become an effective game manager.

2. Florida State, 1-0
Last Week: beat Oklahoma St. 37-31
Next Week: Citadel
Key Stat: Only 106 yards rushing against a generally underwhelming Oklahoma St. defense.
BamaDoc14's Take: Florida St. appeared to have the post championship hangover that normally plagues most teams. While they outperformed Ok. St. in almost every statistical category, it's an ominous sign that Winston and company were only able to sneak this one out.

3. Auburn, 1-0
Last Week: Beat Arkansas 45-21
Next Week: San Jose St.
Key Stat: 302 Rushing Yards
BamaDoc14's Take: Malzahn;s offense picks up right where it left off last year after a tough first half against the Razorbacks. Auburn looks to have a great backup and has found this year's Tre Mason in Cameron Artis-Payne.

4. Texas A&M, 1-0
Last Week: beat South Carolina 52-28
Next Week: vs. Lamar
Key Stat: Kenny Hill's 511 Passing Yards
BamaDoc14's Take: Texas A&M surprised many with it's torching of South Carolina. Kenny and Freshmen Speedy Noil impressed. We'll see if Sumlin can muster enough on the defensive side of the ball to match his potent offense.

5. Oregon, 1-0
Last Week: beat South Dakota 62-14
Next Week: Michigan St.
Key Stat: 7.7 Yards per Carry for the Ducks high-powered offense.
BamaDoc14's Take: Oregon's juggernaut offense will face a stiff test this week with Michigan St.'s defense. Escape this week and the Ducks only play two more ranked teams all season.

6. Oklahoma, 1-0
Last Week: Beat Louisiana Tech 48-16
Next Week: @Tulsa
Key Stat: 27 first downs for the Sooners in this man-handling.
BamaDoc14's Take: The Sooners picked up where they left off from last season's Sugar Bowl win. Trevor Knight had a mediocre game against an inferior opponent. After Tulsa, the sooners begin a rough 5 game stretch where we will see what they are made of.

7. Michigan State, 1-0
Last Week: Beat Jacksonville St. 45-7
Next Week: @Oregon
Key Stat: Connor Cook's 3 TD passes
BamaDoc14's Take: Michigan's St. offense looked great against cupcake Jacksonville St. Their stout defense will be tested in a top ten battle at Autzen Stadium.

8. LSU, 1-0
Last Week: Beat Wisconsin 28-24
Next Week: Sam Houston St.
Key Stat: 17. The Tigers erased a 17 point deficit in route to their opening game win over the ranked Badgers.
BamaDoc14's Take: Hilliard looked to be in top form and the Tigers defense came on late in the win. With the coming schedule, the Tigers will have several weeks to get freshmen Leonard Fournette and Brandon Harris on track.

9. Alabama, 1-0
Last Week: Beat West Virginia 33-23
Next Week: Florida Atlantic
Key Stat: 9-16 on Third Downs in Saturday's game against the Mountaineers
BamaDoc14's Take: While Blake Sims looked to be serviceable at quarterback, Amari Cooper appeared to have returned to his freshmen form. Yeldon and Henry looked great, but the defense did not. Saban will need to work hard in the coming weeks to solidify the defensive backfield.

10. Baylor, 1-0
Last Week: beat SMU 45-0
Next Week: Northwestern St.
Key Stat: 574 Total Yards of offense
BamaDoc14's Take: The offense already looked to be in midseason form and the defense had a strong showing against the Mustangs.

UGA has the worst secondary in the SEC. Clemson is a vastly overrated team that will end up with 5 losses.

You lost all credibility. You obviously didn't watch Arkansas or South Carolina...

People are too high on UGA and too low on Bama after 1 game. Switch those two and the list would be more accurate.

I don't know if we have the worst secondary in the SEC but I don't agree with us being the best in the SEC after 1 game.

List looks about right... Sorry fellow Bama fans, but right now, WE ARE NOT a top 5 team. I'm not saying that we won't get better or that we're not elite, but we ARE NOT top 5 right now... As much as it pains me to say this, but if we played ATM, this past Saturday, we would have gotten our asses handed to us..

Have probably the best roster in the country and had a tough opponent in a neutral site game. I don't see anyone beating them in the regular season, especially after what UGA did to Clemson.

I don't see what is wrong with these rankings if they're power rankings. Based on preseason and last season, they don't really work, though.

UGA isn't worthy of the #1 spot in a regular ranking yet, but I don't really mind if they're #1 in power rankings.

LSU is too high for power rankings, but I know getting some favor with the home crowd is important.

While I agree, both are worse than UGA, it is debatable and sad that y'all are in the same ballpark as those two DBackfields. Y'all made Stoudt look 85348230948x better than he is and got lucky that a walk-on made one of the nasty picks I've seen in awhile. Outside of that pick, it was ugly.

Hard to argue except for the top 3 which are all interchangeable at this point IMO.

I think aTm has potential to win the division after watching them Thursday, but also have watched enough football in my life to know not to buy the hype this early on.

Although I think SC bounces back (somewhat) which would bode well for the Aggies.

FSU still has the best player in the country on their team.

I think LSU needed that first half against a good opponent to find their identity. Jennings is the QB. Without a few of those dropped passes (there were a few-I swear it) then we're not even talking about this right now because he finishes with roughly 50-55% completion ratio. He went 5/7 for 150 yards in the 2nd half. Growth son, growth.

Fournette will get better. Even 5 star studs are entitled to jitters and so-so decisions on their first game, ever. Especially in Reliant Stadium vs a Big 10 team stacking 8 and 9 in the box. Had he gotten more carries in the fourth (when LSU went 3 wide and forced Wisky to honor the pass), I think the conversations about him are much more positive as well.

LSU is not a Top 10 team right now. You have Bama way too low.
