Since I haven't seen it mentioned, just wanted to say I'm excited abt the guy. Has a crazy strong leg. I'll give a pass for the clanker off the post. He was great aside from that

He may end up being the first kicker i actually like, though he did start off with a missed FG.

I don't think wearing out a leg is a real thing. Soccer players do just fine

Wasn't he suppose to be just the kicker when he was recruited? He can punt the shite out of the ball. I'm sure we can bring someone in to just kick or punt so he doesn't have to do it all for the next couple of years.

Kicking motions between the 2 sports are so different that I don't think you can make that comparison.

His leg won't wear out. It's a natural motion to kick a ball. It's not like throwing a baseball.

Plus even with him doing all the kicking jobs, he's not kicking an excessive amount.

Punting wears your leg out a lot more than FG kicking. Player off our high school soccer team was the kicker for the HS, and showed us the basics. FG kicking isn't that much different than kicking a soccer ball. Different technique and body shaping, but the leg motion is similar. Punting wears your leg down a lot more because of where in your range of motion the force is exerted.

With that said, I'm sure the coaches know what Carlson can handle. I don't think we have to worry about his leg wearing out over the course of a season. The only issue could be if there was a game where he was punting a lot and need a late FG (or more likely doing lots of KOs and needing a late FG).

Similar situation. I trained with our HS kicker/punter during the summer & throughout the football season. I used muscles in my leg while punting that I've never used in soccer. You have to use alot of torque and force to get a good punt off. Also run the risk of hyperextending either knee if your mechanics are off or someone falls into you

This is my main concern. Also don't like having all our eggs in 1 basket

I always liked Steven Clark. But when the speared the Bama kick returner in the Iron bowl and knocked the "AU" Loose from his helmet, I fell in love with him.

Hopefully, with this offense he won't be punting much in any game while he is our punter!

i have to admit, Steven Clark is the only punter i have ever liked. But he did let a snap slip through his hands against LSU last year
