ECU won its only 5 games of the series in 7 meetings in the 1990s - the most turbulent decade in Gamecock football history. Carolina is 10-0 vs ECU in every other meeting.

Bill Lewis 1-0 vs Sparky
Steve Logan 3-2 vs Sparky & Brad and 1-0 vs Holtz (1999*)

only 2 of those wins came against USC teams that finished with a winning record (1994 & 1996).

the first win in the series for ECU came in 1991. ECU ended up ranked #9 (11-1) that season and qb Jeff Blake finished 7th in the Heisman voting before being drafted in the 6th round of the NFL draft by the Jets.

the 1999 win vs Holtz was by an ECU team that won 9 games and beat WVU, #9 Miami and NCSU in the same season. David Garrard owns 28 school passing records, throwing for over 9000 yards and starting every game at qb from 1999-2001. he played 9 seasons for the Jacksonville Jaguars (Pro Bowl 2009).

Steve Spurrier is 2-0 vs ECU, his Gamecocks scoring 56 and 48 points respectively.

We lose to ECU it won't be anger it'll be deflation, something would be even more towards UGA's advantage.

A loss to ECU kills the entire season.

Right now, USC is very much in the same position that UGA was in '11(?) when they lost to Boise State to open the season. The backs are against the wall, and there is a great deal of trepidation amongst the fans. Richt started 0-2 that season, but was able to take advantage of schedules and USC mistakes to back into the SEC Championship game.

Now, aTm is better than that Boise team, and I'd like to think USC is better than that UGA team. As awful as that loss to aTm is, it would be much worse were it to an East team. If Carolina can show some backbone and play well against a pretty solid ECU team, and follow that up with a victory against UGA, every goal for this once-promising season can be attained.

I think UGA is pretty damn good this year. I honestly do. But I also know that the better team doesn't always win this game ('13, '01, etc.)

I've let this past week simmer in my head a bit, and while it was rough, I don't think All is Lost. UGA has a bye to read their clippings and get an over-inflated sense of worth. USC gets a week to figure some out identities on both sides of the ball. Two weeks can be a showdown for who gets to Atlanta. Again.

Speaking of this game, Reports from 247 saying

The 4-2-5 will be focused on and predominantly used.

David Williams should make his debut.

MD28 is iffy for Sat, it will all depend on how he responds to treatment.

OLine probably will be shifted around a little bit, depends on practice this week.

I'm personally really excited to see DW's debut, lot of hype around him. Hopefully we'll be a lot more balanced on O Saturday.

Leave his bitch arse on the bench. Tired of his shite and think Wilds deserves the start and Williams deserves the carries

Good. Just because we have a shitload of good LBs and unknowns at DL doesn't mean you switch to a system that we are even less well equipped to field.

Should have seen some time in the A&M game when no one else was doing anything. Same goes for Mitch...

I still think we have the horses here to shore up the holes that were evident on Thursday. Less worried about the O line than the D line being almost completely unable to get any pressure.

ECU is going to throw all day against us, UNLESS something drastic changes in our Pass Defense. IF we just fix tackling and giving the WR's a 5 yard cushion every play, we may keep them under 300 yards of passing....

New defensive starters via Coach Ward:

Rico McWilliams will get the nod at cornerback ahead of true freshman Al Harris. T.J. Gurley gets the start at safety ahead of Chaz Elder.

Also, linebacker Skai Moore returns to start at Will Linebacker.

I remember that first loss by Sparky - we were still living on the Isle of Palms at the time and everyone went to Bobby Hartin's Sports Bar over on Coleman Ave to watch the game on satellite .... it wasn't pretty.

He had this pretty bartender named Gretchen though - she helped us to drown our sorrows.
