Here

I watched the replay yesterday. My thoughts:

1. Boise State is a well-coached, fundamentally sound team. Their players were almost always where they were supposed to be, tackled well, and did a good job of reading our formations. (Ditto Ole Miss.)

2. His 4 interceptions notwithstanding, Hedrick was very accurate all night, usually even under pressure. He hit tightly covered receivers exactly where he needed to hit them. His interceptions were caused by bad decisions/pressure rather than inaccuracy. (So, basically, the opposite of McEvoy & Jennings, for those who watched LSU/Wisconson.)

3. Boise State had a good game plan. They assumed they couldn't block our defensive line and relied on rollouts, misdirection and quick passes. Hedrick dropped back only a few times to let receivers work through their routes. 3 of those resulted in interceptions & 3 others in sacks.

4. I didn't see Boise State stacking the box with 8 all that much, to be honest. They seemed to shut down our running game with 6 or 7 in the box in the first half.

5. Our secondary might be better even than our defensive line.

I think if we can get rid of whatever it was causing all those damn false starts (which we mostly did in the 2nd half) and Bo can stop trying to force throws (also stopped in the 2nd half) then I think we'll be fine.

Looking like shite in the first half of the season opener is apparently Hugh Freeze's trademark.

We were trailing UCA at halftime in 2012 and were down 21-10 against Vandy last season.

Speaking of Vandy, they suck huge balls this year. We'll sleepwalk our way to a win next week. Might as well start gameplanning Bama now.

I hope we find the running game between now and then.

The game really played out exactly how most should have expected. Boise's veteran and very deep D-Line against a talented but young and untested O line, caused fits but in the end, talent prevailed. Bo made some mental mistakes, but we knew those would happen. We knew the scat backs couldn't grind out the hard yards, but the good news is, the bigger backs were able to open stuff up. Big Rob was a force and drew double teams on nearly every play in the second half. They had to go max protect when we rushed 4 and we had 7 guys defending 3 receivers. Our secondary Tee'd off.

Boise was fundamentally sound but they played with fire because it's the first game and they all had the SEC chip on their shoulders. They kept it close but eventually we pulled away. I wouldn't put much stock in how we looked in the beginning but how we looked on the forth, when we figured it out. We looked very good in that 4th Qtr. If we get it all together over the next 3 games, we will be ready for Bama.

I agree for the most part, because the offense did get its shite together in the 4th, but their D was absolutely drained and exhausted. We will not find other SEC teams that tired in the 4th because of SEC depth. So we better hope we come out and play before that.

I read that our snap count was "on first sound", and everytime boise's line shifted they yelled "shift", and it was causing our linemen to jump. Why we waited until halftime to fix that I don't know.

I wouldn't say there D was drained. They rotated 4 lines deep, 19 total players on the D Line. The time of possession was also greatly in Boise Favor, meaning there D had significantly larger rest periods. It had more to do with us figuring it out and Boise's first game adrenalin wearing down.

I have been saying this aince the game. They knew our DLINE would crush them. So they did quick QB drops and rolled him out. Then when they HAD to pass deep in the 4th we killed them.

I think one thing the game showed is how bad we CAN look at times (first half) but also how good we can look (2nd half)

Also our D is fricking nasty. Only way to describe them. I got to where I was more excited about them being on the field and watching them than watching the O haha

We opened up 14 point favorites. I think the spread is 20 points as of right now. If we have our shite together I think we easily cover

Me too. But we won't get 7 turnovers and Vandy players always get up to play OM. This game is exactly what Mason needs to re-energize his players after the Temple fiasco. We should win handily but I've seen us struggle too many times to Vandy over the last 25 years to actually expect that.

ETA

Last 10 years:

2004 Ole Miss 26 23 (OT)
2005 Vanderbilt 31 23
2006 Ole Miss 17 10
2007 Vanderbilt 31 17
2008 Vanderbilt 23 17
2009 Ole Miss 23 7
2010 Vanderbilt 28 14
2011 Vanderbilt 30 7
2012 Vanderbilt 27 26
2013 Ole Miss 39 35

I bolded the one time we beat them by more than a touchdown. We've only beaten Vandy by more than the current spread (20) twice in the last 25 years. There were some pretty bad Vandy teams and some pretty good Ole Miss teams during that span.

We went 7-1 in the SEC in 2003 and STILL only beat Vandy 24-21.
