I thought overall he did a solid job. Wasn't a fan of the fade in the endzone or the 4th and 6 long bomb, but he did well at getting the ball to most of the playmakers. I'm disappointed, however, that OJ Howard was not targeted. I hope he fixes that.

Thoughts?

He did great for what he had to work with.

It was what I expected which is to say schematically the same as what we've seen the past several years. Not sure why people were expecting a lot of I formations and passes to the TE

Saban seemed very pleased with him based on comments in his post game interview.

The offense was solid. Sims had a good game, but his arm strength is going to limit our down field routes.

Called a really good game. Over 500 yards on offense with a new QB, and we couldn't throw the ball down the field.

Very solid A for Kiffin tonight, IMO. Liked the no huddle...was very productive when we used it in the 2nd half.

OJ was targeted once. It was just intercepted.

I think he will be the man for us. OJ Howard needs more touches (a touch would be a nice start) but we fed the ball to our playmakers otherwise henry, yeldon and cooper. To me it seems that sims has elevated his play quite a bit since Kiffin has been in town. I also like having him on the sideline as Saban comes in and chews the guys out and then Kiffin steps in and gets them ready for the next series.

Don't forget White. He had 6 catches, and was targeted 8 or 9 times, and he got hurt early in the 3rd quarter.

I think Kiffin thinks Coop/White are Lee/Woods.

OJ was in single man coverage on that play. A CB covering Coop peeled off because Sims never took his eyes off of OJ after the snap. If Sims had pump faked to Coop, OJ would have taken that well thrown ball to the house. He has to learn to look off of his targets.

Yep. Could have also realized the Corner was coming, pumped to Howard, and then aired it out to Coop.

But it was his first start. A play like that is to be expected.

I thought he did well considering what he had to work with at QB. I do wish we had tried to get the ball to a TE, but that's my only complaint with the playcalling.

Agreed. Was pointing out that it was a great call, OJ was open, BS made a great throw, he just has to learn to look off his receivers or use pump fakes. But it was a downfield pass that was on the money. And you're right, that CB left Coop all alone. A pump fake to OJ and Coop would have had the entire right side of the field to himself.

If BS gains some confidence and fixes that, he'll be fine.
