How big of a concern are our DBs? I don't know if I can handle another year of them like last year. Hype for Brown and Humphrey though.

I'm kind of worried, kind of not.

Jones/Sylve will start, and the word is they've improved. They're certainly good athletes, I just wanna see what they can do. WVU should fling it a lot, so they'll get some work early and often. If either struggles, I'd like to see someone else get in. Tony Brown had a great Spring and Fall camp, the only thing holding him back would be his emotions. He just has to keep his cool. Eddie Jackson seems mostly healthy. According to Saban he might play.

Once EJ gets back into the thick of things, I expect him to take one of the corners. I wouldn't mind moving Cyrus to Star. I've always thought he'd fit better there than at Corner, and we need to move away from playing Safeties at Star. Don't get me wrong, it hasn't been bad. But offenses like WVU and A&M will take advantage of the WRvS matchups.

The Safeties look like this right now:

FS: Nick Perry
SS: Landon Collins
Star: Jarrick Williams
Money: Geno Smith

LC is a beast, he's probably one of the only Safeties in the country who I'd put in man vs any WR in the nation. He needs to be a playmaker for us. Perry knows the D, I imagine he'll stay in the center field role most of the game. We'll be in Dime a lot, so Geno will be on the field too and I think he can cover some WRs. Jarrick was underrated last year, he played really well at Star and I think he'll only get better this season.

I'm a bit worried about the DBs, but we'll learn a lot about them tomorrow.

One thing is for sure, they won't be slow.

Definitely. We've got speed. Tony Brown may be the only sub 4.4 guy, but LC/Marlon/Sylve all have 4.4-4.45 type speed.

Everyone seems to think they've improved during camp. Certainly there's talent at that position, but I'm personally pretty skeptical about Cyrus and Sylve until I actually see them perform well in a game situation. Brown & Hump should eventually be amazing. Inexperienced players very rarely perform well in Saban's secondary no matter how talented they are though.

The biggest thing that scares me is seeing A&M play. Our corners can get away with some inexperience against LSU and AU, but not A&M. Ole miss might even show them something. Brown and Hump should be killing it though late in the season. I'm a big EJ fan as well.

Keep in mind, our front 7 should be able to put much more pressure on the QB this year. That alone will be a massive boon to our secondary. If we can get a consistently beefy pass rush, our secondary won't have to work nearly as hard as they did last year. (The prospect of A'shawn at NG makes me giddy .)

I kind of disagree. I don't think experience is gonna matter as much vs A&M. Zone isn't the way to go against that offense. Get pressure and smother the receivers.

But I'm not qualified to make that decision. I'll leave the gameplan to Saban.

I'm honestly not worried about a&m. SC had perhaps the stupidest defensive game plan for that kind of offense, big cushion, 3 man line with nobody who can rush. Have to jam the recivers at the line to disrupt the timing, play physical, and play tight. They gave hill nothing but easy throws all nighy. Our dbs can run with a&ms wrs easily, and we should be getting more pressure on the qb

Rise, no one is doubting him. There is no crow to eat. We just have questions. We're all cheering for him and want him to succeed. No one is saying he hasn't turned a corner, we just wanna see it. At least that is how I feel.

It annoys me that Perry and Jones will still be on the field.

I think that's the most rational approach to take to Cyrus Jones. Maybe he really has significantly developed, and I really hope he has. However, until he actually performs in a game, there is no way to actually know if he's improved as a player at all.

This guy has it right. Our D line/front seven should be a huge help to our young secondary. A huge fricking help.
