Bleacher Report, but actual journalism, not ranting opinion

The kid sounds like a real get.

Saw a thing the other day about being in the locker room and they had Sportscenter on the TV. They started talking about the Sims/Coker battle, and someone said "Hey Jake, you're on TV!" and he just kept doing what he was doing and said "Cool".

From the article in OP:

quote:

“I will not be surprised if Coke-boy is in the middle of the Heisman thing before the season is over. He’s my guy, will talk about Coke-boy all day,” said former Florida State running back Devonta Freeman. “If Jameis Winston is a first-round pick of the NFL, then Jake is a first-round pick. If they came out next year, they would be the top two quarterbacks. I tell you no lie.”

"Coke-boy".

It's so weird Everybody is talking about inconsistency with Jake here and there but all his teammates, coaches, past coaches, and just about everybody else associated with the inside of both programs. I know some of it's expected but I wouldn't expect something from a player like that.

Well they have a sort of bad rep from past years but I think they were bought up by someone legit, so maybe we should soften our scorn for them and be ready to give BR a second chance.

Interdasting.

probably put just too much pressure on himself ... it's actually a good thing that there's a battle to be fought over the first 2 games ... gives him some time to adjust a bit more ...

Yeah, they were bought by CNN/SI, which is how I found the article in the first place. They actually used to have some legit writers -- most of whom are still with them -- but those were drowned out by the copious dross before. Now they're featured.

As for the other replies here, whet I'm getting is that he's taking time to adjust, but once he does, look out. What I'm reading there isn't so much "negative" as it is just "realistic" in the short term. He's injury-prone, but nobody ever accused Bama of having a weak o-line. I'm actually kind of worried about him and we don't even play y'all in the next two years.

Edit: someone downvoted my OP? Maybe I accidentally came across as sarcastic.

Nah, I think just about everyone who reads/posts here regularly appreciates your posts. In all likelihood it's a lurker from another fan base.

That's what I'm saying.

Zone reads/roll-outs/screens from Sims is what I see happening.

Problem with that is that while misdirection plays can be explosive, 2-minute drives can win/lose games.
Can Sims sit in the pocket and deliver? I hope so, but I'm not confident that he can.
I hope Coker is a gamer and comes out looking inhuman during games, but that's probably a pipe dream at best.

I think his only holdup has been learning everything not being a great QB

There's always that. Seems a little odd to me to get upset about someone posting information relevant to another fanbase in that fanbase's forum, but I've noticed that certain posters from certain fanbases do seem to have a wee bit of a complex when it comes to Bama. Granted, if I felt like my team was constantly in Bama's shadow, I might feel a little insecure too. That's one advantage of being a fan of a historically lower-tier program -- nobody expects us to live up to the standards of the top tier. The day they do start comparing us to Bama...? Well, once I sober up, I'm so trolling y'all.

I think this is true. The week leading up the last scrimmage, the news trickling out was that Coker was starting to assert himself.

I think its fair that these two factors are what Coker is dealing with

- Time & Familiarity with the program is an issue with Coker
- The Team is behind Sims (for good reasons that don't mean they are anti-Coker)

Anyway we can get an email out to the players telling them that Sims isn't that good?

LOL. I think Sims will probably be serviceable...but that doesn't mean that will be good enough for us to go all the way. Itd be great if Sims really rose to the moment.

Thanks for the Link.

Being a Bama fan for 50 yrs I'm always cautiously optimistic about what I hear about a QB coming in.

But,I have complete faith in Coach Saban as a talent evaluator so I'm a little excited.

It would be something to see a 1st Round Talent slinging the ball around for Bama.
