This is an annual event put on by the Mississippi Cattlemens Association, if I'm not mistaken. The football team gets to play around and compete in the hay bale toss. They also get treated to a steak dinner.

Square bales are generally used to stack in horse barns. Horses have to have dry hay to eat. Horses eat hay. Hay is dried long grass.
