Who are the coaches who have been with Saban since he arrived in Tuscaloosa? Are there any?

Which assistants moved upward when they left Saban/Bama?

How many first or second year assistants are on the staff this season?

Thanks for answering in advance.

Smart and Williams from the start. Burns was like year two. Cochran may have been there year one too.

Obviously Kiffen's first year. Steele is a returning assistant. OL, Cristobal is year two. Lance Thompson was on original staff and this will be second year back and Davis returns after a year away.

I think he already knows about Smart and Kiffin. That's all I know about Bama's coaches.

Thanks

Have any coaches left and improved their lot?

I know Chris Rumpf left for Texas ... but I don't even consider that a lateral move these days honestly.

Why did he leave BTW? Did Saban tell him to find another job? Who replaced him?.

Jim McElwain went from OC under Saban to HC of Colorado State. Sal Sunseri went from linebacker coach to DC at Tennessee.

Those are the ones I can think of off hand.

I think we had one coach go to Duke so his wife could get medical treatment.

Applewhite was "encouraged" to go to Texas.

Don't think Saban was unhappy with Chris at all. Good coach and recruiter. Davis has the DL now. We also had an former Auburn player and coach for a year that went somewhere after that. Think it was a favor to Tubbs to give him a position for that season.

Mac may be the only one from Bama staff to go upward. When Steele left it was for Clemson's DC position.

Only Burns and Smart have stayed the whole time. Jeremy Pruit coached Secondary and took the FSU job as DC last year. Named UGA DC after the FSU natty. Some have left for better gigs, bombed and came back.

True, I wasn't even thinking about that one.

And Williams.

Pruitt was an admin guy, only coached Secondary for a couple of year, and we know Saban is the real coach back there. He's smart and understands Saban's system, which is why I'm sure Saban reccomended him to Jimbo Fisher. Richt pounced on him after one year.

The entire defensive staff is the same as it was in 2007. Though some have left and returned.

Those that have continuous service?

Lance Thompson

This guy has been a coach at Alabama on three separate occasions. First in 1999 under Dubose, then 2007 under Saban, left for Tennessee in 2009, and came back to Alabama in like 2011 or something.

I thought Steele was at Oklahoma or somewhere in the B1G?

He was fired a Clemson. He has been at Alabama in an administrative role and is back on the field again as ILBs coach.

Oh hell, that's right. Doing. I had him confused in my nugget with Brent Venables.
