I haven't been able to follow pre season as much as I would like but from what I've gathered we've been plagued by injuries, suspensions, and at least on eligibility issue.

I don't think we have experienced depth which is concerning but overall I think we have more talented players than we did last year. I've been concerned about our depth more than anything. Are we built to survive an SEC season?

Where does the defense currently stand? What are everyone expectations for the current season?

I will get very drunk watching the defense play

But in the end, the team with the most points win

I expect us to be better than last year. We should have a very strong front 7(ish) if Garrett can finally stay healthy. Added to and modified the doing where we should be stout an against the run. Secondary seems shaky, but we have experienced and speed back there. Not witted about the safties as much as the corners. God news is we have 3 games against weak pudding team.

But overall in looking forward to year 2 under Grandpa Johnson. We have real football coaches on the defensive sides now. Showed in year one, will bear fruit in year two.

I hope we have at least one breakout player on Defense this year...Adams? Lambert?. Last year it was Lawson.

I still have high hopes for the defense despite the lack of Therezie, Lawson, maybe Owens, etc. If our offense is stellar, I hope the defense feeds off of their momentum.

I trust in CEJ to make the right decisions, and Jake Holland graduated!

We should be great against the run.

Monty
Ben Bradley
Jeff Whit
Elijah Daniel
Angelo Blackson
Gabe

Will all be in a steady roation to keep them fresh, what we'll lack in a speed rush off the edge will make up for in stopping runs having Gabe and Elijah playing the edge.

LBS should be solid we more or less will be is a base 4-3 defense against run heavy teams like Arkansas. Justin Garrett has moonlighted at OLB in his career and at 6'3 225 he'll be a nice addition to Cass and Frost.

Secondary is still suspect. I think we'll all still be frustrated giving up big pass plays. Whitehead has never shown me anything Jones doesn't have a lot of pt under his belt. We have a few x factors in Holsey Ford and Moncrief. If one of those guys could blow up and have a Honey Badger type season it would tremendously help out pass. D. I'm concered Holsey isn't 100% though. He's still in a brace and hasn't had full contact since last season.

I think we'll be top 3 in run defense and bottom 3 in pass defense.

Don't sleep on Ladarious Owens. I think he's a bit underrated right now.

Lanier, we went to the NC game WITH JAKE HOLLAND in the middle. How can we be anything other than better?

I want to see an aggressive defense for four quarters, every game.

I was hoping for the best, but with all of the injury news I'm having serious doubts.

I have no doubt our front 4 and linebackers will be solid. I am actually excited about the linebacker play.

My concern in the secondary. Once teams have to pass agains us, we will see...

Kris Frost played a lot last year and I look for him to be a leader this year. I also hope Therozie is not out for long

Im optimistic. Just a little nervous will all the injuries..

We are going to have to have a damn pass rusher if we want to have a good defense.

We will be better than last year. Linebacker play is looking up, and I think the secondary will be good enough this year. I like our secondary actually.

But the problem right now is for that secondary to be able to do their job, we have got to get a good-great pass rusher and we don't have one. Last year Ford was great and Lawson good. That is a problem right now.

Against the run, we will be very good if we can get guys 5-8 to pay like starters. Our front four will be very good against the run, but we will rotate at least 8, maybe 10. How well 5-8 play will be the difference of whether we are good or great against the run.

This is why I'm concerned about depth. If we're going to have to score to win games that means the defense is going to be on the field a lot. We have the numbers to rotate on d-line but not so much in the secondary. I'm concerned about when guys get tired and worn down in the second half

Got a good feeling we will be relying on the freshman class to fill out some of the depth chart. Which tbh is a good thing. We signed a lot of talented players on the back end this last recruiting cycle .

I also think we will see Cass at DE on 3rd and long.

Let's just say I'm glad the QBs from last year all left. My two concerns are pass rush and secondary. But since the best QBs we're facing are Bo Wallace and Dak Prescott, I think we'll be fine

Anyone worried about defending misdirections and counters off tackle because we have so much weight in the front 4?

A guy over at AUfamily said he was at the last scrimmage. Said Lawson was on the sidelines with a brace on his knee, no limp, and running. Sounds good to me!

Here's a pretty good rundown by EJ on the 14th.

I expect to be overall better than last season, but feel like we will still struggle against the pass. I am very concerned about the pass rush at this point.

I know college ain't the NFL, but just as a comparison, the Carolina Panthers had a shite secondary last year. Yet they were one of the Top 5 defenses in the NFL. Why? Probably had the best (or one of the best) front 7's in the NFL creating havoc.

This is my hope for the AU defense.
