I'm more disappointed in how Dobbs was pretty much a non-factor in fall camp. It really shakes my confidence in him going forward.

Oh well, let's see what Worley can do with these recievers.

Yea as I've said before I would much prefer Dobbs seizing the spot but if he isn't ready he isn't ready

Don't forget that it appeared Worley was really starting to "click" in the offense when he got hurt

Of course he will never be a Peyton Manning or even Ainge but he isn't as bad as he looked at the beginning of last year

I truly hope Worley does well this year and proves haters like me wrong.

I just don't think he can really get it done against a decent defense on a consistent basis. I hope the skilled talent can elevate his game.

This, but please dear God above let either Dormady or Jennings be what we all pray they can be...

I think the future is QD. I still think JJ is an elite safety prospect and that's where he ends up.

I feel the same. My hope is that JJ sees this, and realizes that his NFL payday as a top level safety far out weighs what he can hope for as a QB. Then promptly begins laying waste to anyone coming over the middle...EB style.

Why are people on the rant bashing Worley? He is by far our best chance at making a bowl game this season. Worley is clearly the best of the bunch.

I mean let's face it, what opposing fans have seen of him hasn't been very impressive

Indeed, both head coach Butch Jones and offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian praised Worley's development and noted that they have never seen the former Gatorade National Player of the Year performing at a higher level.

"The body of work over the long-term is important, but we want to know who is playing his best football right now. Justin is hitting on all cylinders right now," said Bajakian, a former quarterback. "So we're excited about that.

"He is more vocal; his command presence at the line of scrimmage has improved drastically. We talk about owning the line of scrimmage and taking control, and he's done that. Part of that, too, I think is that he's developed a comfort-level and proficiency in our offense that he's able to make all of the checks that we need to make and he's able to make them with confidence. Whether it's on the field during practice or even in the meeting rooms, the weight room, he's been a voice of encouragement to our players. It's not just just an example of him leading by example. He's asserted himself as a leader."

Worley, who never had the benefit of a redshirt season and has appeared in 17 career games, said his transformation commanding the offense is a drastic turnaround.

"I feel completely different," said Worley, who has 1,977 career passing yards, 11 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. "A lot of it is protections, just knowing where to slide guys to. Coach Jake has done a good job of working with us and seeing what we like, and he's put a lot on our plate as well. I'm going to have more freedom this year to make calls at the line, check out of bad plays and into plays that I feel more comfortable with to match up with what we're getting from the defense better."

I really think this kid will be the real deal. He certainly has the tools. I hate to think he plays as a true frosh, though.

I haven't seen anyone bash him. Seems like a great dude, I just don't think he's SEC caliber. I would love to eat my words and I hope he face fricks the competition.

Would be tits if this is the case.

I meant the thread in the SECr. They aren't really bashing him; however, they are assuming he makes us that much work. QBS in the SEC will not be anywhere near as good as last year. Worley will be one of the better ones IMO.

I don’t know if I expected it, but I knew being the senior quarterback, guys were gonna look to follow me," Worley said during Thurday's annual preseason media day in Neyland Stadium. "But Coach Jones said I’ve been playing some of my best football, and I’ll agree with him on that. I was hoping that he would lean my way, and now I’ve just got to take the opportunity and run with it.”

Worley said it was "not at all" a problem for him that Jones made him re-earn the No. 1 spot — a spot the quarterback lost last season only because he got injured.

"I mean, it’s in Coach Jones’ hands to make the decision, and I’ll tell you what: Nate Peterman and Josh Dobbs are playing lights out, as well," Worley said. "They’ve really pushed me to be a better quarterback. We talk about the power of the position, and I’ll tell you, we’ve got a really, really good quarterback group. They’ve really made the decision hard on the coaches. I’ll tell you that.”

Worley said he's also more confident than he's ever been, though, and that he expects everyone to see a different-looking No. 14 when he and the Vols take the field in their Aug. 31 season opener against Utah State in Neyland.

"I'm really excited, and I'm really grateful," Worley said. "Coach Jones gave me a great opportunity, and it's up to me to take it and run with it and make the most of it."

Probably because he was pretty awful all last year with some good play sprinkled in. His 2nd half of the UGA game was inspired but so was the rest of the team's play and if I'm being purely analytical, the team's play was far MORE inspired that game than Worley's. Yes, he was at the helm of the USC game but that wasn't great QB play - it was adequate. Now what Worley has always had is grit and determination but his talent hasn't been impressive in games. That said, all we need from him is to manage games.

The other thing is no one on the rant has kept tabs on his improvement. They're going by a bad year with uninspired to bad QB play as well as inexperience at WR/TE plus injuries that made all our QBs look bad. Underthrows by a QB stand out in games and even look worse than INTs and boy did Worley suffer from some bad ones last year.

And I say that as someone who believes Worley has improved from last year a great deal. I feel confident in all three of our QBs because while it may not be great it doesn't have to be in order for us to win and all of them look tons better. I've also been saying I'm not worried about QB for several weeks now. BUT I'm trying to give you what I believe to be the answer as to why Worley doesn't garner any respect on the rant.

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks. And I'd love nothing more than to see Worley not only enable you to serve up crow but also play so inspired that announcers talk about the greatest player turnaround in history.

I won't lie - I think Dobbs is our future (possibly even our near(ish) present if he gets over his 'sophomore (practice) slump') but even if he does, I just can't shake the feeling that Worley is what we need right now/possibly all this season unless he turns out to collapse under pressure/suck. Despite what I think of the talent differences, I think a team so barren of upperclassmen needs a senior QB's leadership more than most and Worley's always been a good leader. He's respectful to his teammates and a straight up grinder and may well be the 'old man' our young guns need. Besides, we'll rely on the short pass and the run this year, imo - given our line as well as our RB stable it would be crazy not to and Worley can most certainly perform that well.

I'm not as sold on Dormady as others. He hasn't played in a looooong time and he's incredibly young. I'm also wary of falling in love with another arm - we've gotten burnt twice lately. BUT I think if nothing else he has a good chance of stepping in after Dobbs' senior year. That would give Dormady time to RS Dobbs' junior year plus a chance to backup Dobbs' senior year. ANd that seems pretty ideal to me - we've gotten wayyyy too used to QBs being forced to play as underclassmen.

Also I'm not ready to write off JJ as a future safety. Before I would've and did but the scouting reports and other reports I've read in the last few months all pretty much say the same thing - kid has improved a LOT and is starting to very much look like a legit CFB QB. He still looks to project to safety but if those new reports hold and he keeps progressing we might be pleasantly surprised. Two good to great QBs (Dormady and JJ) is a fantastic problem to have - depth wise it's what we need even more than a super-fast safety. But we have a lot of time until then and ultimately either one could turn out to be great, good, mediocre, awful or even change positions.

Regardless, even though we all know this season is gonna be tough, the future is exceedingly bright and I haven't felt that way since Fulmer. That knowledge alone is enough to carry me through this season and bring a smile to my face.

Strengths: Staring down his recievers. Waiting entirely too long to throw the football to the open man.

Weaknesses: Throwing the football, tucking it on the read option every now and then, looking off defenders.

Seriously though, Worley is decent on short to moderate throws. He's alright on short crossing patterns and has pretty good timing on those throws.

His biggest weakness is arm strength imo. We had a lot of plays last year that could've gone for bigger gains or a TD if Worley could actually hit a man in stride past 30 yards. I often saw receivers have to adjust and come back to the ball when they would have the defender beat by a couple of steps.

He does have a tendency to stare down his receivers from time to time so hopefully that's fixed. That, combined with his average arm, allows DBs to jump the routes too easily imo.

He's actually deceptively fast for a QB his size but, for whatever reason, I could probably count on one hand the times he kept the ball on a read option with a wide open running lane and the DE crashing on the RB.
