I have had Dish for about 8 years and have been satisfied with the product. Now I have 5 TV's that are all running on 3 boxes. Two have DVR's and the other does not need it.

The current system is fine. I really dont have any complaints with it.

I am trying to find out the benefits of this new Hopper deal. From what I understand, each TV has its own box which has one tuner. All of those tuners can be shared by each unit if not in use for viewing or recording.

Am I even close on how that thing works?

Man, who knows? But the commercials are only marginally irritating, which is better than some.
How was the trip out west?

It was fine. Saw some unreal country. I had my kids and both my parents so no real rest. Just being the tour guide. Big Sky Montana was really more enjoyable than Yellowstone to me since I had already been there. Really enjoyed being up on the mountain. Except for when i went jogging everyday.

I just upgraded last week. Haven't played with recording yet, but I needed to upgrade to be able to have 6 TV's.
They sent me 2 hoppers, a joey, and 3 wireless joeys. The hoppers replaced my two previous receivers and you have to have a Joey for TV's not directly connected to the hopper.
The hoppers talk to each other, so basically I can watch TV on each one separately, record multiple shows at once, and record from each TV to the hopper and the hoppers talk to each other and you can watch any recording from any TV.

So far so good. I fussed a bit, and I'm actually paying for one year less than I paid with my other two receivers. Happy so far.
