How do parents love their kids more than their spouse?

Married 9, 4 year old daughter. I love the tyke more than my own life and would generally do anything for her. But I can honestly and easily say I love my wife more.
If, God forbid, someone put a gun to our heads and said I had to choose one to save or lose them both, if there were no way to save both of them I would choose my wife. She would hate me for maybe a year or so but hopefully she'd come around and we could move on.
The woman is my life partner. My child(ren) will be under my wing for a while but one day they will fly the nest. They won't grow old with me. They haven't vowed to love me for better or worse. They didn't choose me any more than I chose them. They will never understand me like she does. They will never want to. Seriously, how do people come to love their kids more?
Maybe it's a guy thing, or maybe I just haven't had that moment with my daughter that establishes the paternal bond at it's apex yet. But I tend to love my wife more and more as time goes by so I don't see how that's going to overtake it anytime soon.

Love of a wife is different than love of your children. Depending on what part of Alabama you are from.

Speaking as someone who is neither married or a parent, but I think it's two different kinds of love. Not necessarily loving one more than the other.

Your wife will most likely bang your best friend at some point. Hopefully your daughter will not or will at least be better off at hiding it.
I have never understood how someone would love their partner more than a child. A child is the essence of innocence and something you brought into this world and created. But hey I am neither married or a father, so I don't know shite.

All I know is your wife can divorce your arse, take all your wealth and frick your best buddy.
Your kids are yours all your life, whether you like it or not. Now which one is the permanent relationship?

Can't say I love either my wife or my kids more. It's a different kind of love anyway. I'd give my life for any of them without a moment's hesitation, and the hypothetical you proposed has such a slim chance of ever happening I won't even entertain it.

Kids can do just as much, if not more, damage as a bad marriage can.

Shoot me...I could not choose either.
I totally get what you are saying though. Cleave unto your wife and be one flesh. With emphasis on "ONE". One love, one purpose, and of one mind. I feel the same way.

A kid is part of you. You will always love yourself more than others.

I tell my kids on a regular basis that I chose their mother. I'm stuck with them.
She wins err'y time.

I love my wife with all my heart but my daughter is my heart.

It's a complete different love and cannot be compared unless you're from Alabama and frick your kids also.

Same here.
There's no choice at all. My wife feels the same way regarding me and my daughter.
A parent has no greater responsibility than to protect their child no matter the cost.

In your scenario is have to choose the wife to be killed. I couldn't live with myself knowing I decided the fate of a kid. They have an entire life ahead of them they deserve to live more. You can always remarry and find a new wife....hell she might even be hotter
