As the hypothetical Athletic Director of SC, what would be the SC project(s) you would pick, and what do anticipate the cost(s) to be?

Al lot of projects have already either been funded or bonded, like the new indoor practice facility, greenscaping around Williams Brice, or the new tennis and soccer facilities, etc....

I'm talking about NEW things not already budget/planned for, but maybe you've seen on a Wish List for some time.

For me:

$40M - Williams Brice expansion of 5000 seats on North Endzone, but a lot of it is premium club/box seating.

$6.5M - Another Beast Board above the South Endzone to match the new raised one on the North Endzone. (The North Enzone Beast Board would be higher in elevation than it is now with the WB expansion.)

$4M - Increased Wireless/Data service for gamedays. I'd partner with Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and those guys to increase the towers and signal strength around WB. Hopefully they'd go dutch on this and if so, it could cost much less.

$20M - In club rooms/club seating renovations/enhancements. Keep updating the look. Wood grain e'rywhere!

Then $30M worth of incentives to coaches for winning%, championships, post season accolades in all sports.

or

How much do you think it would cost to brick the Brice?

I might be in the minority, but based on that rendition at least I'm not sure I'd like to see Williams-Brice bricked in. I just don't think it looks right for some reason.

1) Build a tram/light rail running through campus w/ a final destination stop at Williams-Brice

2) Build footbridges at corner of George Rogers Blvd & Bluff Rd

3) Buy out Shuman-Owens and create new parking

This is what I'm ready to see happen. Finally get that parking lot out from under the stadium and landscape it up a bit.

We're expected to get a George Rogers statue too right? I'd like to think we'll eventually get a couple more up. Especially if we can come away with an SEC title soon.

Oh, and more trees. More trees everywhere. Shade would really help w/ the heat.

The entire area (like 2 sq miles) just needs to be made more pedestrian friendly. You've got people parking in Rosewood and Olympia walking along the side of the road for miles to get to games. It's ridiculous.

Much of the industrial property towards the interstate will gradually get replaced over time as students flock to that area so we can't really do much in that regard, but we could goose the process by buying out Shuman-Owens. That lot is prime parking and in between a lot of tailgating hotspots. To remove it and build condos, student housing, athletic facilities, or just nice parking would be huge.

Wheel really hit the nail on the head here, making the area pedestrian friendly and easier travel to and from the stadium would be amazing.

Is this still in the plan? I remember seeing a mockup of a foot bridge before the remodeling of the farmers market. It looked awesome.

Pretty much buy out all of the old shitty warehouses and beautify it with fields/trees. More tailgate space and would cut down on people's walking distance.

This, combined with a light rail/trolley/shuttle from campus, would be really nice.

I would say put a dome on that be-itch and call it a day. But seriously, I'd like some of those nice video screens between the upper and lower decks, like the ones a@m has.

I figure we we're already beautifying the area around WBS with the money we're already getting from football, why not spread that extra cash around the AD to build up some of our other programs. I would love to see us compete more nationally in other sports in addition to football/baseball (a la Florida and Stanford).

Only thing I can think of that would help the Football experience is to buy out some of those warehouses in the area and build an entertainment complex where we could put in restaurants, bars, clubs and something for kids as well. One of the big complaints we hear all the time is that the travel to other areas after the game for nightlife is annoying. Wouldn't mind adding another bar scene around the stadium (especially with a lot of students living in that area already...).

I don't know the legality or compliance issues that that would cross though... but maybe buy the property and direct what can go in there could be doable?

I think the biggest issue here is allow the zoning laws to be relaxed. That's a city issue. The real estate around the stadium has absolutely skyrocketed over the last decade. The cost for an entrepreneur to buy out one of those warehouses and turn it into a bar is past the point of being able to make a profit for a few years. When I was in school, we tailgated out of a warehouse that they had attempted to turn into a bar before they ran out of money. If it was like that before the team was really any good, I can't imagine how prohibitively expensive it would be for local cats to pull it off now.

And I have no desire to see a Chili's or TGI McWholabie's or some other corporate chain restaurant/bar move into the area. At the economies of scale we're talking about, that may be all that's realistically left.

Right, but I'm talking the school buys the land, and dictates what could be built there. Then they lease out the property to business looking to move into the area. I wouldn't imagine the school would have too much issue with the zoning as they still hold quite a bit of influence with the city. It would then be in their best interest to make sure that any business going into the are would adhere to whatever entertainment plan they set. They would actually then be investing the new found money into property and building it up in addition to making the area around the stadium more visitor friendly.

Gotcha. So you're proposing that the university essentially becomes a landlord, and leases space for the development of a public/private partnership in the creation of an entertainment district.

I would like the finished product - if it worked. But after the relative failure that was the Innovista, I doubt that that the university would want to get into another partnership. Of course, this is all hypothetical were we to allocate $100M. So yeah, in this scenario, I'm on board.

They could stand to beautify the north and south end zone bathroom/concession areas... throw in some more lighting, paint it a little bit, maybe grade down the ground and repave it.
