Unless, a person dies suddenly of a heart attack or in an accident, they will gasp for breath for hours before they die.

There is no such thing as dying of old age. People who live long enough to make it to nursing homes often get too senile to chew and swallow their food properly. Thus, when they eat, food particles get in their lungs. This causes pneumonia. Then, they gasp for breath for hours or even days before they croak. It's called dying.

It's no different from the people who are being given lethal injections.

I witnessed my wife lapse into a coma 19 years ago. She snored and gasped for breath before they put her on a ventilator. She survived and says she can not remember anything when she went into a coma.

These guys are sleeping, unaware, and not suffering like their bleeding heart lawyers falsely claim.

I'm in favor of the death penalty theoretically, though opposed to it in practicality because the government can't always be trusted to get the right guy.

But objecting to it on the grounds that it violates the 8th amendment is totally ridiculous.

He snored? How is that cruel?

The death penalty is so hypocritical.

I'm not a huge fan of the death penalty but the "it's hypocritical" argument cracks me up.

The argument I've heard, and I'll assume sorantable is alluding to, is that it's hypocritical to kill people to show that you shouldn't kill people.

If that is your argument then any imprisonment is hypocritical since we would imprison you if you locked up someone in your basement. So then could we say it's hypocritical to lock people up to show that you shouldn't lock people up?

When you lose the exact same thing you took from someone else, it's really not even punishment. The world breaks even.

Imagine how much murder would be happening if it were legal.

My opinion isn't that far-reaching. I just think human life is valuable and another human or government shouldn't have the right to end one. It's just too heavy. Lock them up forever.

My opposition to the death penalty has more to do with how barbaric and sadistic it is for a civilized country.

Fair enough. That is a valid argument against the death penalty IMO. I go back and forth on the issue all the time.

I'm for the death penalty but they damn sure better have the right person. Any capital crime deserves capital punishment. You take a life, you give your life.

This is how I feel about it. The death penalty isn't worth it if even just one innocent person is put to death.

Plus, it doesn't really benefit society at all assuming the alternative is life imprisonment. You're completely removing the possibility of reform out of the equation. Life imprisonment is cheaper, as well. I know the idea of reform in our current prison system is a joke, but that doesn't mean it couldn't change for the better.

Rebuttal:

If we as a people demand capital penalty for capital crime then it should be carried out in a manner that is final and resolute in its delivery before a witnessing public.

Having a government entirety who hides sentence and pretends it's just putting people to sleep in a humane manner is deplorable and does no public service save ending one life.

The death sentence is an egregious act by nature. It should only be administered in such a manner that dignifies finality and horrible consequence. Its action should appall and upset the civilized mind no matter the circumstance while holding a lasting somberness throughout our society.

Lest we all be judged as hypocrites by history.

That movie was f'ing HORRIBLE. I was pretty disappointed with humanity when I saw they made another. I was pretty disappointed with myself for not turning the first one off within 15 min.

Capital punishment is correct, but only if the evidence is indisputable, and the punishment fits the nature of the crime. Murderers have ample time to come to terms with the impact of their crimes before execution. Usually 20 or more years. It's beyond ridiculous that these people are allowed conjugal visits in some states. Over time, people become aloof to the realities that families face, and victims that were denied life.

I dont think capital punishment is meant to educate people on calculated murder being wrong... that concept should be inherent. I think it is meant to be a final consequence for people who decide to engage in that wrong, to eliminate the threat said people pose to the rest of society, and as a strong deterrent for other people who would disregard the wrong-ness of the act and engage in it.

Thus, it is not hypocritical. It is logical, and sociologically responsible. What IS hypocritical, however, is someone demonizing capital punishment yet supporting abortion.

The executed are getting off easier, with less suffering and pain, than if they were imprisoned for life in jail and died of whatever probably prolonged ailment finally took their life.

So, now... are we going to start protesting against life sentences without parole?

My only worries with the death penalty isn't necessary the "penalty" itself. It's just general concern over our justice system getting it right.

I was always against the electric chair. I always felt it should've been an electric couch. That way we could've zapped 3 at a time.
