I know that we have a series with Ga Tech coming up in 2016 and 2017, but does anyone know what schools Ole Miss is trying to schedule since we are now mandated to have at least one non-conference opponent from the other power 5 conferences starting in 2016?

Anyone hear anything through the grapevine?

My bad... Ga Tech is not scheduled for 2016, they are scheduled for 2017 and 2018. We have to fill the 2016 slot. I don't see Clemson mentioned at all.

According to fbschedules.com

2014

08/28 - Boise State (at Atlanta, GA)
09/13 - UL Lafayette
09/27 - Memphis
11/08 - Presbyterian

2015

09/05 - UT Martin
09/12 - Fresno State
10/10 - New Mexico State
10/17 - at Memphis

2016

09/10 - Memphis
09/17 - Wofford
10/08 - Georgia Southern

2017

09/02 - South Alabama
09/09 - Georgia Tech
09/16 - Tulane
09/30 - at Memphis

2018

09/15 - at Georgia Tech

2021

TBA - Tulane

Could have sworn I saw where we scheduled Clemson. Guess I was wrong. I would like to schedule Texas Tech again.

Here is a good article on the subject. not many choices

This is a frustrating topic to talk about because people will inevitably just start naming ideal teams. Its more complicated than that.

quote:

Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State and Missouri are also all looking for games, and there's not very many options on the table. Here's who is available, according to FBSchedules.com, with a couple of filters put in place:

Teams are unlikely to play more than one game against a major conference opponent.
The Big 12, Big Ten and Pac-12 all play or will play nine conference games in 2016, so they each have only three dates available.
Notre Dame will play five ACC teams in 2016, and it's unclear how those schools will approach the rest of their schedules. That's why Clemson chose to get out of the Ole Miss series.
Ole Miss has announced games against Memphis (Sept. 10) and Wofford (Sept. 17), and Georgia Southern's athletics director told a local TV station Friday that the school (now in the Sun Belt) will play Ole Miss in 2016 (without giving a date). These dates (especially Wofford) could move, but the easiest solution is to play the fourth non-conference game on either Sept. 3 or 24.

So, with all of that in mind, here is who Ole Miss may be looking at:

Boston College -- Open on Sept. 3, 24

Miami -- Open on Sept. 3, 24 (but already at Notre Dame)

N.C. State -- Open on Sept. 3, 24 (but already have home date against Notre Dame)

Syracuse -- Open on Sept. 3, 24 (but already neutral date against Notre Dame)

Kansas State -- Open on Sept. 3, 24

TCU -- Have opening, but not on Sept. 3, 24

West Virginia -- Open on Sept. 3 (but already neutral against BYU)

Michigan State -- Open on Sept. 3, 24 (but already at Notre Dame)

Rutgers -- Open on Sept. 24 (but already at Washington on Sept. 3)

Arizona -- Open on Sept. 24 (but against BYU on Sept. 3)

USC -- Open on Sept. 24 (but already have home date against Notre Dame)

Washington State -- Open on Sept. 24 (but already have home date against Boise State)

With three home games on the books. Ole Miss could go on the road. That would help in negotiations.

The other option would be to play in a kickoff classic-style game that is set up by a neutral site organizer. Ole Miss is playing in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic weekend this season against Boise State. A similar event is in Houston, and Nashville is also looking at creating a game. That could open up the date to someone not on the above list, who would maneuver their schedule to get into the event.

Maybe FedEx can buy Memphis into a power 5 conference and we would be set. (joking)

I'd love to see us play against Arizona, Michigan State, USC (not going to happen), or Washington State.

I personally wished that the SEC had gone to a 9 game conference schedule. I think that they are going to find out that scheduling is going to be a mess.

I'm not exactly excited to pay $70 per ticket to see us take on Presbyterian.
