1.] AJ McCarron (2010-2013)
Why he's here: Holder of several UA passing records, including career (9,019) and season (3,063) passing yards and career (77) and season (30) passing touchdowns, McCarron finished second to Florida State's Jameis Winston in 2013 Heisman Trophy balloting. Completed 43 of 62 passes for 498 yards and four touchdowns in two BCS National Championship Game wins. Career record as a starter: 36-4.
Claim to fame: Lone UA quarterback to win back-to-back national titles as a starter and only signal caller to do it in the BCS era.

2.] Harry Gilmer (1944-1947)
Why he's here: Gilmer was a great all-around football player who happened to take some snaps behind center. The MVP of the 1946 Rose Bowl, he accounted for 53 total touchdowns
during his career: 19 rushing, 30 passing, two punt returns, one kickoff return and one interception return. Top individual performance came against Kentucky in 1946, when he rushed six
times for 216 yards and completed both of his pass attempts for 50 yards in a 60-19 UA win. Gilmer led the Crimson Tide in passing, rushing, passes intercepted, kickoff returns and punt returns that season.
Claim to fame: Member of Alabama's Team of the Century (1892-1992) and College Football Hall of Fame.

3.] Joe Namath (1962-1964)
Why he's here: If there was a people's choice vote for the top spot on this list, Joe Willie would likely win in a landslide. There are football players and then there are icons. Namath was the latter. Namath's celebrity went beyond the gridiron and into the world of pop culture. None of that would have been possible, of course, had Namath not lived up to the hype on the field. He was so good against Texas (255 passing yards and two touchdowns) in the 1965 Orange Bowl that he was named the game's MVP -- in a losing effort.
Claim to fame: One of two quarterbacks on Alabama's Team of the Century (1892-1992).

4.] Kenny Stabler (1965-1967)
Why he's here: With Stabler following Namath and Steve Sloan behind center, the 1966 Crimson Tide didn't miss a beat, posting a perfect 11-0 record that voters failed to reward with a national championship. Stabler was named SEC Player of the Year a season later, when he passed for 1,214 yards and accounted for 14 touchdowns. Best remembered for his 53-yard touchdown run through the mud against Auburn in 1967, which was the difference in the Crimson Tide's 7-3 win over the Tigers. Also a standout in baseball, "The Snake" was drafted in the first round by the Houston Astros.
Claim to fame: Along with Namath, Stabler is a member of Alabama’s Team of the Century (1892-1992).

5.] Pat Trammell (1959-1961)
Why he's here: This one falls under the aforementioned "my guy" category. In the case of Trammell, he was legendary coach Paul "Bear" Bryant's "guy". While you won't find him on many of UA's all-time individual statistical lists, Trammell's impact on the rebirth of Alabama football was undeniable. "He can't run, he can't pass, and he can't kick - all he can do is beat you," Bryant said of Trammell, who posted a 26-3-4 mark as a starter. Upon learning of the passing of Trammell, who died at the age of 28 from cancer, Bryant reportedly said, "This is the saddest day of my life."
Claim to fame: Trammell quarterbacked Bryant's first national championship team at Alabama.
Memorable moment: VIDEO: Trammell leads UA to 11-0 season

Next five: Jay Barker (1991-1994); A.T.S. "Pooley" Hubert (1922-1925); Steve Sloan (1963-1965); Richard Todd (1972-1975); Greg McElroy (2007-2010).

Gilmer led Alabama to a perfect season and a Rose Bowl victory in 1945. It's not his fault that World War II ended that same year (Army and Navy both finished #1 and #2 in the AP that year; Alabama finished #3).
