TUSCALOOSA _ University of Alabama baseball fans had their wish come true Thursday afternoon when the Board of Trustees voted to go forward with the construction of a new stadium. The Alabama baseball team will have a new $30 million home for the 2015 season. Although the project has been tabbed a renovation of Sewell-Thomas Stadium, every part of the existing structure will be replaced minus the ongoing construction of the adjoining Sarah Patterson Champions Plaza along the right-field wall. At a proposed cost of $30 million, the next stage is for the plans and architectural designs to be completed and brought back for board approval in a few months. Construction is slated to begin at the end of the 2013-14 season and be completed by August 2015.

I thought the was already supposed to happen. I've been to a few baseball games and the way they were talking, it already sounded like a done deal.

Too bad I probably won't see a game in it in the next 20 years

Are there talks of building a new basketball arena?

Needs to be. Coleman is almost 50 years old.

That article is from last September so I would hope it is a done deal at this point.

I hope so. Coleman is a terrible arena. The renovation a few years ago was a huge waste of money.

About freakin time.

And there won't be a new basketball arena any time soon. They just renovated Coleman a few years ago when they should have just built a new one.

Coleman's had several renovations and updates in the past years. Unless oil is discovered on University property, the Coliseum is here for another 30 years or so.

Wat?

there is nothing wrong with Coleman. It's not the newest on the block but it doesn't need a complete overhaul and a new building either.

coleman should have been rebuilt. It needed to have capacity decreased and or set up is such a way that there are upper decks in the arena. not a great place to watch a game if your more than 25 rows up.

I have a love/hate relationship with Coleman, but most of my love is just nostalgia from having season tickets in the 80's when Wimp was coach. I agree it's a great arena if you're in the good seats, but is terrible the higher up you get, or if you're in the corners.

But I do think they should have rebuilt it a few years ago when they renovated it. But then, Shula was still the coach at the time and they had just expanded BDS so funds were probably limited.

I concur, should have built a new basketball arena. Soon it will be sandwiched (somewhat) between newer football facility and baseball complex. It will basically be an even worse eyesore. I feel like I'm in an aircraft hanger the few times I've attended games at Coleman.

Coleman is odd too in I think it's the only arena in the SEC besides Auburn which implements a square box design. Everyone other arena is circular which makes for a wider space, but Coleman is smaller space but has one of the top capacities in the SEC thanks to it's design.

Coleman needs to be replaced with a more modern arena. It's too old. However, it's not going to happen anytime soon. Alabama just had a $30 million renovation done on it fairly recently.

Not too recently? Then you're saying it's overdue?

Sorry. Typo on my part. I meant to say fairly recently.
