I'm assuming A&M and Vandy will have the early Freshman reporting dates as well since they start on the 28th of August along with the Gamecocks.

Time will fly between now and then.

What are the big stories around the league, the big things to watch for, from the time SEC Media Days and Summer Camp begins, until the first kickoff?

Who will win starting QB spots is always a big question. Who seriously has doubts about who will emerge as their starting QB? Anyone? Any program not sure yet heading into Summer camp? A&M is the only one?

Impact newcomers. That always seems to be the second big question. Usually it's going to be someone who enrolled early, or a JuCo player, that has the most impact. But sometimes there are true freshmen arriving for their first camp fans look forward to, the most.

LSU - RB Fournette
SCAR - one of the new DBs or maybe WR Shaq Davidson
UGA - RB Nick Chubb (embarrassment of riches)
Bama - DE Da'Shawn Hand (translated The Shawn Hand, feminine gender)
Florida - DB Jalen Tabor, QB Will Grier
UT - needs help everywhere but, RB Jalen Hurd, WR Josh Malone
Ark?

Injuries - it's a two-fold question.

A - who is returning from an injury that you are hoping is back to full speed and ready to contribute?
B - to keep it from being morbid, rather than naming a specific player you cannot afford to lose during Summer camp, name a position. Which position can you least afford to lose a key player.

For SCAR we need WR Byrd, maybe the fastest guy in college football, to return full speed. And we cannot afford to have any injuries anywhere, but particularly in the secondary.

Anything else you are looking forward to heading into Media Days and Summer Camp.

Potential Big Stories:

Has Bert lost weight? Is he already on the hot seat? Or in his case, the mashed flat hot seat.

Will Muschamp - is he on the hot seat? Will Driskel be the man at QB - is he healthy?

Can Derek Mason build upon what Bobby Johnson and James Franklin started at Vandy?

Will the SEC East finally break the hold on the West's run of SEC Championships?

Predicted order of finish according the the writers:

West

Bama
Auburn
LSU
Ole Miss
A&M
Miss State
Arkansas

East

SCAR
UGA
Florida
Mizzou
Tennessee
Vandy
Kentucy

You can bookmark that and take it to the bank - that's how they are going to vote, that's not necessarily how it will look at the end of the season.

Best part of media days is listening to Les Miles and his little quips. Outside of Gregg Popavich of the Spurs, Les is my favorite person to listen to be interviewed. You literally have no idea what is going to come out of his mouth.

That's true, both Spurrier and he have been known for their quotables.

I fully expect Nick Saban to be confronted with some of the shots Spurrier has taken at him over the summer in this upcoming media days event. It's going to be interesting to see if Saban goes defensive or if he's finally gotten a sense of humor and pokes fun back at Spurrier.

Saban is not really a funny guy who knows how to deliver a punch line. So if he is going to try to do it, he needs to gather his writers now and prepare, and then role play and work on his delivery.

Please God oh please, just once, let Saban say something funny.

I missed (purposefully) most of the offseason. What has Spurrier said this year? lol

I'll be interested to see what kind of questions Bielema gets asked. I'm sure they won't be softballs.

As for fall camp, I think Brandon Allen has the QB spot secure unless something drastic happens. One thing I'll be watching for is how the freshman WRs do. Jared Cornelius and JoJo Robinson could play a lot this year. Bijohn Jackson will also play a good sized role on the DL. RS Freshman safety De'Andre Coley has received a lot of hype so i'll watch him too.

Demetrius Wilson missed last year with a torn ACL so he will be interesting to watch in the WR rotation too...probably one of our top 4 receivers

The only possible reason for SEC media days is Spurrier's comments.

He's been snipping at Nick most of the Summer but the latest really reached-out ...

quote:

(Spurrier) “I have read stories that people who last a long time have outside interests. I can’t grind on football 11 months a year maybe the way some of these coaches do. They can grind now,” Spurrier said. “I mean, they will go 6:30 a.m. to 7:30, 8:00 at night in the offseason. Did you know that? I don’t know what they do. They say they are working.”

Spurrier specifically mentioned telling Saban he would be just as successful at Alabama if he put in fewer hours.

“He said, ‘If I could do it the way you do it, I would, but I don’t feel comfortable unless I try to cover every base, every angle, be totally prepared.’ I said, ‘Well, that’s probably why you do it.’ When I come out there, I feel comfortable we are ready to play. We have our game plan in, going to call this, call that and so forth. Everybody is different as far as when they feel they are totally prepared.”

Asked if he (Spurrier) worked longer hours ... “would we be 12-1 instead of 11-2? Oh, you’re kidding,” Spurrier said. “I haven’t heard anybody say that really, but if you wanted to, you can find faults with anybody if they don’t win them all. How many SECs (championships) has (Saban) won there in eight years? He’s won two. He’s won three nationals, but he’s only won two SECs in eight years. Now, if you had the No. 1 recruiting class every year and so forth, I don’t know if he has maxed out potentially as well as he could, has he?”

Impact newcomers

Da'Shawn Hand. Rumors that he is around 280 with only 10% body fat

I don't know if DJ Pettway counts, but you can bet that he will make a name for himself this year and next. He had a pick six on A-Day. Coming from a DE/Jack, that is sure to make some quarterbacks leery.

Rashaan Evans: Should be fun to see in the third down packages.

Tony Brown: thanks, LSU.

If our secondary is going to live up to it's potential, Eddie Jackson needs to come back by the time we play TAMU. He reportedly tore his ACL in a non-contact play during a spring scrimmage.

Some of our guys that were a little knicked up last year are Trey Depriest, Yeldon, and Arie K. They should be back to 100% by now.

Secondary. We have a lot of talent on the bench, but not many have meaningful game experience. Would be devastating for an injury to happen particularly with our safeties.

Potential Big Stories:

How does Bama recover from ending the season on a losing streak?

Who will emerge as the team leaders?

Will this team's talent overcome its inexperience?
